I think it's more important to mention Cooter just to the right :)

Excellent point!

In fact (long story short), the information I seek is for Cooter himself. We are trying to recreate some key props from the show. Its equally possible this was a studio-built prop OR a real analyzer, but I have a feeling it was real.

There is a nameplate on it that says 'syncrometer' or 'stratometer' or something similar.

Any help is appreciated!

Is this something you're thinking to buy?

From Cooter?

Seriously, try to give more info, lot's of older Guys here know that stuff pretty good. Marc

Ben Jones is a cool dude, met him at his place in Sperryville. Trivia fact: He was a congressman for one term.

It looks like the base/roll away it is sitting on is made by pressteel... Same company who made plvmb and craftsman roll away tool boxes in the 40's and 50's... Cant help on the diagnostic machine however :)

No worries Marc!

Yes, this is a screenshot from the show.

I am recreating props from the show for Ben Jones himself- for one of his 'Cooter's Place' attractions. I will either have to find or build one of these (as a non-working prop), so I am of course interested in anything that will help me do either. Its not a high-budget project so I'll be doing with whichever option is the most economical.

I agree with your assessment that the studio would probably not create something from scratch when they could use an existing item.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Yes he is- he's the real deal. This is actually for his store in Sperryville- actually for the new store that is replacing the Sperryville location.

Thanks Smokeshow69! After a quick google search, I believe you've nailed the cabinet part!

I have looked all i can, all |I can say is the main meter gauges do not seem to me, to be ones used on any Sun Machine.

Certainly similar, but yet w differences.

Also, I find it interesting there is no space on front for a "billboard" of the manufacturer name, POSSIBLY supporting idea it was a made prop.

You should also post at this Forum -

You are in the right place for this query, someone will come along.

Keep in mind, that typically those sort of large brand names would be removed or blocked out for use on TV.

Also, that small rectangle at the top middle did indeed have a name on it- the top of it says 'syncrometer' or 'stratometer' or some such, and the bottom was blacked out (probably the brand name)

Thanks for your help Marc!

My whole Life (59) EVERY time I work on a project, I know that I often get way toooo involved in details..

WAYYYY to focused on details, imperfections.

My thing is I usually get "WAYYY too involved"

I learned at around 45 yrs old, I always need to remind myself of something - Once it's all said and done, do the defects/ details matter as much as they did when I was doing it. ?????

When it was in front of my eyeballs, the Object of my CURRENT attention.

It is at that time, my total focus, and quest for perfection.

And later, I almost always find I was over obssessed with the moment.

I realize, it won't really matter.

Now, I am NOT trying to say we have that here.

I am just trying to help, that's all.

I did look at images and info on "Cooter's Place", and think it's VERY neat.

Just step back, and ask yourself " ? HOW ? important this has to look like the scene in the show" ?

I bet WAY less than 1% of visitors will question that, as long as it looks ballpark of that Era.

I definately do NOT know the whole situation you have.

Just my outspoken thoughts, if they apply at all. Marc

Marc,

You sound like you are in my brain! Correct on all points!

We start with shooting for 'exact', but will compromise when time and money dictate. At some point you have to 'fish or cut bait' and just get it done- as you say, a very small percentage of people will ever know the difference. But with a little effort in the right place, its possible to get VERY close. Just look what has been figured out in less than 12 hours in this thread alone!

I thank you for your obsession- its that I need! :)

Cool, glad he's back in VA, we were all sad when he closed up shop. I'll have to check out the new garage. Lots of fun roads and parks out that way too.

I identified the two large rectangular gauges at the top. They are Clayton brand Dynamometer SPEED and HORSE POWER gauges. I found one of them for sale on ebay, but I need another one!

I found an interesting picture- I'm thinking now that the unit was originally a Clayton Dynamometer like the one below with the Sun module slapped on in the middle (accounting for the 'crowded' look of the face). On the lower cabinet of the unit in the picture is the name plate that is at the top of the prop.

Well guess what folks? Its a real analyzer, cabinet and all! They added the Sun tack and dwell module plus the lower left panel, but the rest seems to be the Clayton 1949 C-41!
