Please help me find a threaded tapered spindle for buffing FOR THREADED SHAFT

Another thread just now reminded me to ask you guys....

I just picked up a trash bag full of mushrooms, goblets, domes, squares, and cylinder buffs....the kind that attach to a tapered spindle.

I have 2 polishers/buffers. A big Baldor and a small Baldor. But they both have threaded shafts.

Where can I find these tapered spindles that thread on?

All the ones I see on google look like they all go on a smooth shaft and you tighten down the set screws. Won't work on the Baldor threaded shaft.

On a quick look they all seem to have a smooth or keyed smooth bore. You could thread one of the smooth bore one or if necessary put a helicoil in one.

There was a thread on here somewhere about having Kevin54 making a pile of them. Maybe he'll chime in. I say have them made because I have those adapters for my 1/4 buffer with solid shafts and need more HP so I moved them to my 3/4 threaded shaft and it doesn't fit well. It doesn't run true and I can see it on the buffing wheel.

Larry: it looks like the knife and gun website link Cyph provided has tapered spindles you can just add on to your grinder or buffer. some are right and some are left hand threaded and i didn't see where you can buy a pair so guessing that you'd need to buy one of each for $24.95 if you had a 3/4 inch arbor or what ever size arbor you own.

Monkey: that would be the Craftsman block grinder thread because we were talking about extending the arbors on the blocks to keep the debris from buffing out of the motor if turning a block into a buffer. Kevin54 was nice enough to volunteer and make some to sell us, but there are so many different size arbors i'm not sure if anybody ever had him make any. some of us already own Baldor buffers that were discussing it at the time. IIRC it was about $60 per pair of right and left threaded extensions and i think they were threaded on their ends and not tapered.

I'm thinking the thread, right or left, is for the pitch on the tapered part for mounting the buff. The female part were it mounts to the motor, bore, is smooth. For a straight shaft motor all is grand but the OP wants one that will screw onto the threaded shaft of a grinder.

Larry: my mistake if i assumed the spindles were threaded if they are not.

that's what would be needed and didn't know the spindle part was threaded, but i haven't used that style of buffing pads (yet).
