I am trying to find a drill press that is quality built and will last. I have found two I am very interested in so far. One is a 1953 Rockwell and the other is a bench top Craftsman (150 head style). The guy wants $175 for the Craftsman and the other guy wants $150 for the Rockwell. The Craftsman seems to need more restoration, but don't know enough about them as a whole. Also not sure I understand why the motor is laying on the floor on the Rockwell. Does one have a better spindle and chuck, or better motor, better availability for parts if needed, etc. I have attached pictures of each one and hoping you guys can enlighten me. Thanks. Jay

I've had each. In fact, I have the CM floor model now. Purchase factors will include the motor HP and overall condition. In SoCal, those prices are fair but negotiable.

Yeah they are all on craigslist. They are from surrounding cities like Omaha, NE and Des Moines, IA. Trying to figure out a way to get that Delta shipped here. About a 4 1/2 hour drive and really no reason to go there but for the drill. Seller doesn't mention shipping it. Any other members live in twin cities that may wanna help me get this sent here? Figure gas there and back will run $100 effectively making the cost of the tool 200$. Any ideas?
Ok, so I've stared at this picture and compared it to photos of other 150 type Sears DP's. Is there something missing at the rear pulley? All the 150's I see have a multiple size step pulley in the rear. Is this right or was that just an upgrade that this does not have?

Yes, the last Cman 150 listed is missing the rear multi-step pulley. You will have to measure the front pulley and search for a replacement in order to take full advantage of the multi speeds. However, the the DP will still work with the single step pulley on the motor until you can find the proper one.

In round numbers, I paid $75 for the Craftsman and $100 for the Delta 220. The smaller Delta/Rockwell you pictured, I've got two I paid $50 each.

Prob sounded like a *****, but my craigslist app wasnt working right last night and only showed the back side picture of the craftsman which led to my is it a 150 question. I have talked to the owner of the craftsman. Says everything is there, no broken pieces and such. Agreed to take 60$ for it. Seems like a fair deal to me after seeing the other pictures. What say y'all?

Yeah the second craftsman from Omaha , NE. We agreed to meet on Saturday and possibly do the deal. If I can find the right motor multi step pulley what size is it? I will start searching for one. Is it a 3L or something else? Thanks for your advice guys. I'm new here and you guys have been very helpful.

nine4gmc just restored a #150. He might be able to answer your questions about fixing yours up. I sent him a pulley to finish it off (it was the only one I had, no more).
The size was a 4 step pulley 2 1/2" tall, 5"dia at the large end, 2"dia at the small end. The one I had had a 3/4" arbor, but I suspect that you will need one with a 1/2" arbor. You'll need to check the arbor on the motor that comes with the DP. Also, measure the pulley on the spindle to make sure that the one you get for the motor matches. They show up on ebay every now and then.
