Anybody know what this item is used for? I have two of them and can't remember why they were in one of my workbench drawers. I've tried searching using Google Lens with no luck. Not sure what the four metal pins are for on the front of the device. Thanks in advance!

I had one of those in the late 1990s, it looks like my old gas 'card' for a pool car or fleet fueling system?

Kinda like this:

I know it's not much help, but DKS Doorking makes all kinds of access systems, gate operators and traffic control systems. We have one of their gate operator systems at work. I don't know anything about that particular "key", but the logo is different than I remember. Maybe that's an older key?

Thanks Folks... all good thoughts. I may also have acquired these 'keys' when I was on active duty in the Navy about 10 years ago but don't remember for sure. The shape of the device

...oops... is such that it looks like it would've been inserted into some kind of reader or access control point (as depicted in MWong's pic). Bottom line is I haven't needed it in the last 10 years so they're probably headed to the 'circular file' cabinet. Happy Holidays to all!

They look like those keys for opening beer cans used a lot by bartenders.

Made me laugh out loud..... almost spit my beer out! No worries, I was a flyer and they didn't let us near the launch codes (although as a P-3 pilot, I did get to 'play' cat and mouse with several different silent service crews from around the world).

Hey Snapped-Off- We always heard you could (supposedly) hear us flying overhead and now you tell me that you could see us too...learn something new every day!

And K'ledgeBldr- We actually had a credit card we took with us when we went out of area if we needed to get gas in some 'exotic' locale. We also had things we called Cadillac Chits that could be used... well... you get the idea. In case you were wondering, Uncle Sugar always asked for an accounting of how we spent the taxpayer dollar (and 'just because' wasn't accepted as a good enough reason).

Back when there were local video game arcades, those were used to allow you to buy credits, then a reader on the game would deduct from your balance. Probably wasn’t very secure, with your balance being held on the chip in the device, but cheaper for the arcade than buying tokens. Both were designed to separate you from your money up front, in larger amounts, than the old style quarter slots In the door.

Lockheed built a great aircraft in the P-3 but cracks in the wing structure are NEVER a good thing. As an operator, I appreciated those 4 big Ham Standard props out front to help make instant lift. Got me out of trouble more than once.

Apparently this particular one got in a flat spin.
