Hello everyone,

I'm looking for the threaded shaft/handle for a Wilton 645. It has sentimental value and I'm having a hard time find one. If someone might know of a substitute that will thread into the nut, I'm ok with that option as well.

Please advise,

Bryan

Their customer service seems really hit or miss. Might be easier to run an ad looking for an exact match donor vise.

Well,

I was able to get ahold of a person yesterday. He said that the vise it to old and they have no replacement pasts available. In fact, they don't have any specs on it either (Like the thread size).

He suggested (As ironic as it is) that I come here and ask you guys. I told him that I did, and didn't have much luck. He didn't have any other options other than wait for someone to have a part for sale.

Womp womp.

That part is technically called the leadscrew.

Out of curiosity what happened to the original?

Vise came from my friends dads shop, was taken to the junkyard by accident where it sat for several years in the rain and seized. Once I was able to acquire it again, I had a student use a torch to heat the nut, but he heated the shaft instead and tried to unscrew it, thus breaking it in 2 pieces.

Not I need a nut and spindle.

Sad as I've used this vice for many years, and will keep it until I die, but hopefully will get it working again.

You might just have to buy a whole working vise and transfer those parts to yours. Others will say that is not economical especially if you have to pay a lot for shipping but if your broken vise has “sentimental” value you might be willing to pay whatever it takes to put it back in service.

There’s a 645 for sale on eBay right now for $110 plus $30 flat rate shipping from Missouri.

I’ll keep my eye out for what you need.
I have a Wilton 1644 in my collection which is one size smaller.

Yeah, I saw that myself already. I also took another Wilton vise apart to see if the shaft my the 645 will thread, and it did. So I'm on the right track, just have to keep looking until I find a suitable replacement.
