I am renting a portion of an occupied shop and have purchased a BendPak XPR-9FX and need some help, advice, whatever on how to place it....I made this layout in google sketchup pretty quick and can alter easily to help with the placement. In the picture below the area that will be mine is the area below the shop office (the 14'by24' area) and the measurements supplied is the general area and it does go all they way down another 14' but we may be using that as a fabrication area. The issue is where to place the lift obviously...The entrace to the shop is the long section in between the paint booth and office and there is a column that will need to be navigated. I thought about putting it parallel to the long wall but that would require a bunch of turns to get placed on the lift....Diagonally was a thought but that would leave a lot of unused space and the ceiling is slanted so right under the shop office is the best place for the lift but the most inconvenient....Any thoughts, suggestions, etc

Will you be putting a lot of different vehicles on the lift? If not put it in the logical spot... parralel to the long wall. No big deal to move a car in or out on occasion...

I guess i should have specified that this is for my business not just working on my personal stuff, so i may need to move something on or off a few times a day but at the same point i may have something on there for some resto/fab work that could be there for months, but i'll go with worst (or is it best) case scenario and say i'm putting a few cars up a day

If all else fails on a good location invest in a couple of sets or good casters(roll masters) you could then have mulitiple cars in there and simpley roll them to and fro.

Put the lift at the end of the space you have, farthest away from the office. 90 degrees to the wall. Then when you pull a car in, you may be able to swing out a little to the right just after the column, and then a sharp left would get the car fairly lined up for the lift. This all depends on whats in the space below the paint booth, of course.

Or, you could place the lift anywhere 90 degrees to the wall, but you would have to plan on backing in all the cars. You would still probably have to back into the space below the paint booth, but the lift could be anywhere.

Just don't forget about the column when your pulling cars around! You may want to paint it Safety Orange and wrap it in foam.
