I am wanting to have my tv in the garage but am running out of room on the floor for a stand. Would you please give me close up ideas for wall or ceiling mounting of an old school tube tv? Thanks for all the past and future ideas here!

You really should just get a cheap flat screen from Sears and mount it on the wall

If it's a tube, build square with 2x4. Top 2x4 with plywood. Take 2, 2x4's, and put them at outer most point of bottom of square. Angle them towards wall.

Mount it up. Viola!

The fridge is also another good place for a tube TV. With the cheapness of flats screens, you can go get you a 32" flat screen for a couple hundred and mount it anywhere.

I have a 37 inch flat screen in my garage that is hung on the wall. I bought the TV and the mount from Video Only. If I remember right, the mount was under $50.00.

If the weather cooperates this weekend I will be installing my RaceDeck floor. I will post pictures of the floor, and the TV will be in the pictures.

Conduit for one and another in the background I made up from some kind of square tubing I had laying around. I think I used a chair swivel for the one with conduit.

I drilled some holes in the body of the TV and then inserted the hooks from a pair of low cost ratchet straps. The other end of the straps are hung in the rafters. I used the ratchet feature to adjust the length to get the TV pointed the way I wanted. Total time - 15 minutes. Total cost - next to zero ( I already had the ratchet straps)

I'd send pictures but I'm out on the road right now.

Kinda hard to see, but it's the best I can do for now. It's 3/4 or 1' square tube welded together like home plate. Covered with plywood and has two 3/8 all thread rods hanging down from the rafters in the front. The back sides each have a scleat that screws into the wall. It's an old 27" JVC.

Monoprice.com for the wall bracket (tilt, swivel, move around whereever i'm working)
WAY cheaper than anyone else anywhere. Lots of the places wanted over $100 for wall plate. theirs are like $25 or less.. I just used anchor bolts to the wall.

Flat screen at Newegg or tigerdirect. I think I got mine at newegg. 27" flatscreen for like $200 with free shipping. Gotta keep your eye out for a "sale" I run my laptop (dead screen on my laptop so perfect garge parts lookup machine) to it and tv. My tv is the Auria.. Sound ***** on it but other than that it works great. HDMI input, VGA input, S video input and RGB input etc. For a garage i wasnt' going to get a "Nice" Tv.. But I figured college room quality would be fine.

Surround sound was a refurb from recoupit.com for $50. Which was a DVD/surround. Not the best but again, it's in the garage and came with the speakers.

All total I think i have $350 in flat screen with surround sound and the surround sound also has DVD player. Wall plates and speaker mounts added a bit to the expense but while i was working on walls etc i thought it would be a nice addition.

Speaker mounts were $10 a pair from Monoprice and I purchased their speaker wire and surround sound wall plate and vga wall plate for computer.

Sorry no pics as i'm a newbie/lurker but I can try next week to post something up. (haven't read picture posting reqirements yet) have an off road event this weekend with our car club so will be out of town.

I"m not quite done with garage entertainment but it's nicer than most of my buddies have in their houses and WAY cheaper than most tv's.

no I don't work for any of the above companies, i'm just a cheap consumer.

Honestly, if you use any of the info above and are looking for a wall mount for your tv the monoprice site is amazing for that. Places like Bestbuy etc want at the minimum $100 for the same mounts.

I faced the same problem and ended up going with a pull down screen and a projector mounted from the ceiling. Ended up being just a bit more then a flat screen and is always out of the way. I just went with 720p, much cheaper then 1080. Of course now I use it so much already thinking of upgrading.

I made a shelf and put my 27" tv on it about 10 feet off the floor. Then I bought a 46" flat screen and replaced the old tv on the shelf. A couple of chains from the back mounting holes eliminate the possibility of it falling forward. I like it up high because I can see it from any place in the building. The shelf is 1 1/2" angle welded in a rectangle with two braces back to the wall and a plywood insert.

How clear is that screen with all the lights on in the shop? I thought those had to be used in the dark.....:shocking:

Two TV's. One on a wall mount by the man door and one on a wire shelf between the garage doors. That way no matter where I'm working I can look either way to listen to the TV. PowerBlock and Saturdays kind of go together in the garage :bounce:

That's mainly all we will be doing. Hanging out with friends, drinking Windsor cokes, relaxing in the sauna and watching college football. A tv is a great addition to any garage.

The frame is made with stock black pipe pieces from Home Depot.

My TV is just on a corner cabinet. I put my amp and CD changer on a shelf made of black pipe. If I were to make one for a TV I would use at least 3/4".

I have a tv and dvd player. it is not hooked up to cable. I sometimes watch movies out there. my dogs don't go in the house and I just prefer hanging out in the garage. so I like to watch movies out there with my buddies. second and more frequent is I have several instructional dvd's that I use. like the one that just came with the convertible top for the 89 mustang. I can watch it step by step while I replace the top. I have it disassembled now and have fixed the frame and I am ready to replace the top. makes it nice to be able to see it step by step. I also just bought a dvd for rebuilding an AOD transmission. I will be doing that soon. I have an engine building DVD. I have a book and my Dad is a retired mechanic so I don't need this one but I still am no great shakes at setting valve lash etc. so I bought the dvd to teach me some of the skills that I lack. I could also watch it on the computer I suppose but the tv is bigger and easier to see details.

and I consider it critical child safety equipment. it keeps the kids out of my hair while I am working. all I think very good and valid reasons for a tv in the garage.

If your looking for a flat panel mount, then Monoprice.com is a must stop!

I bought nearly everything for my home theatre system (outside of the receiver and speaker wire - only because I found a smoking deal locally), for a shockingly low price.

I put mine on top on all the cupboards the only down side is i feel i get neck-aches from looking up to often. A lower shelf would be better.

I checked at Home Depot for brackets and they have some nice decorated brackets priced pretty resonably. I was surprised at how strong they were. For a flat screen, Walmarts has them pretty reasonbly priced. Good luck.

Nice to put a race on sometimes. Mine from GE has a built in DVD player. I just leave "LeMans" in there permanently.

Video Mount Store.Com has about any type of bracket to mount tv's, appliances, etc, etc, from walls, ceilings, under cabinets and so forth. This is holding a 60 inch flat screen weighing around 75 lbs. Love it. It turns a full 360 if you so desire.:) The one picture is a 42 that I mounted and it was to small and then the other picture is the 60.

Do you have that TV on a swing mount? If not I would put it on one. I don't think I would like standing at the bench with my head cranked to the side all the time.

Lots of great ideas for using pipe as a holder. The first pic of this I wondered why the mounting boards were angled until I seen this pic. Nice idea for a larger TV.

yes it is on a moveable mount, but if you could see my shop you would see it is not really necessary. I don't watch the tv when I am working on stuff and all the chairs and everything are over in this corner. this is the social area of the shop and it makes it kind of separate from the work areas. here are some more pictures so you can see.

lounge.jpg

I have more chairs now and I have moved the bench down away from the fridge a bit more since this pic was taken. but that bench is 8 foot long so I have plenty of room to sit down and watch tv if I want to. I can swing it out if I chose but I really have not felt the need to do that.
