Hey folks,

Scrounging around Craigslist before church this morning.
I find this cool looking old Lincoln welder.

I don't think this is what is usually called a tombstone. I've got an idea what the nickname this one would have...

I'd love to know about this welder if you've got any information.

Buy this one, you'll not hurt my feelings.

Steve

It's a Lincoln "Torpedo" motor-generator set.

Basically a 3-phase motor driving a DC generator. This is how they did it before large rectifiers were commercially viable.

It is a motor driven generator welder. It has a electric motor that turns a generator. It is 3 phase. They weld great but use a lot of electicity. I buy them and scrap them for the copper. It would bring $200.00 around here. I have used one alot years ago.

We had one of those in a county maintenance shop years ago.
I always used it when I had to weld heavy stuff that the buzz box and MIG were too small to weld. I think we even ran 1/4" rod with it.
