Hello, I purchased a compressor years ago not knowing what I bought. A friend's ex-wife's family owned a farm. The family also mingled with automobile garages and dealer of old. The air compressor purchased is a Kellogg EM52-B. It appears to feature a twin cylinder single stage pump, three groove flywheel (with two belts), 1 1/2 HP Wagner 110/220V 18.6/9.3A 1750rpm motor and what may be a 50 gallon 200 psi tank. I believe it's 1920's vintage. It's missing the intake breather. The motor is wired for 220. It sparks a lot and isn't very quick to start. I believe it needs a good cleaning and lubrication. The tank is of a different color than the pump and motor assembly.

I live off-grid and find it difficult to justify keeping this compressor as I use gas and diesel engines to power my equipment. Are breathers available for this? Is it likely that the tank is original? Is it worth anything to rebuilt/recondition or just sell it as-is.

I have a Briggs & Stratton 12 HP electric/pull start, Brenner A414 and Kellogg-American 331tvx that each needs a tank. The Kellogg 50 gallon tank is smaller than I desire but will do. Should I separate the vintage Kellogg assembly to use the tank or find a more suitable tank?

Update:

I pressure washed the unit and could better view a plate welded to the tank. While the assembled unit is designated Rochester, NY, the tank was built in Oakmont, PA by WM. B. Scaife & Sons Co. in 1934. I knew the tank was a different color before, but it hadn't sunk into my head that they may not have been assembled that way.

The EB52-B model number badge is attached to the mounting plate of the tank but the motor and compressor pump are a different color so they may be from a different compressor unit.

I have only a serial number on the compressor pump and no model tag. I'm looking for information on motor identification now. Maybe something will come up.

That Kellogg has a Brunner pump on it. Not sure of the model, they were sold with a small metal tag fastened under a crankcase bolt with the model number on it, which disappeared almost immediately after installation. I wouldn't use a tank from the 20s, but that's your call. Parts for a Brunner will not be easy to find. Run it till it gives up I guess, which, with a Brunner, may be a very long time.
