Pliers, Doyle or Craftsman

I want to buy a pair of Dikes and Needle Nose pliers for a friend, this person is not like us..

Doyle from Harbor freight look decent at a few more dollars

Craftsman he'll think they're pretty and look ok to me

Not interested in any others for this gift, they don't needs Kliens or Channel locks or Irwins etc....

Which way would y'all go

I’m a big fan of harbor freight but I think I’d give him the pretty ones

I have the Doyle dykes and while they aren't a replacement for the "good stuff", they are way more than capable of doing anything a typical homeowner is going to use them for. I have had Craftsman dykes from the Sears days and to be honest, they were junk.

I don't have the Doyle long nose, but did have a pair of Klein's in my pocket one time at HF and compared the two. I think the Doyle's would be just fine. The Craftsman long nose I have are also from Sears, but are 6". Those are in the kitchen drawer because they aren't shop worthy.

@ 65 years old and not ever being a big diy' er he ain't gonna change he has a mish mash of tools yet only one slip joint pair of pliers.

He watched me use the needle nose and dykes one day to fix something and said those look like they could be handy. I was gonna give him the cheap well used ones that I take saltwater fishing, but hey y'all only turn 65 once....

I think if I were to stick to those choices, I feel the Doyle have the most recognizable classic look and feel to them.

That's what I was thinking the doyles looked and felt a little better in the hand..I had older USA made Craftsman 35 years ago mostly to keep in the RV and never cared for them. I didn't know if maybe the SBD chinese version might have been a bit better today.

I don't like cushion grip pliers, so I'd go for the ones that are "normal". Bought the Doyle diagonals for someone, and idk how well they'll hold up, but they felt entirely usable for ~$7. Joint wasn't even bound up. I have USA Craftsman ones older than me that still work great, but they don't make those anymore.

Craftsman for the nostalgia only at this point if the name may give a warm fuzzy feeling to the recipient.

I would take the Doyle out of the 2 choices .
Pretty decent pliers for the price, you can self QC nice pairs from what on display .
Doyle has a classic MAC kind of look to them and they classic handle color rather than overdesigned nonense in rainbow colors with decent ergonomic shape that don't look like dollar store garbage and are pretty nice to use .

I've had good experience with Doyle pliers. For what you are asking I believe they will be just fine.

I get this 100%. I know it's not the exact answer you looked for, but I don't like craftsman, so to me it would be Doyle or Quinn. The way I decide, Doyle for homeowner/construction/Maintenace type work, Quinn for Automotive type work. Doesn't matter one little bit, just seems to me that is the way HF has their tools laid out, and I just usually buy by that way.
