I have a few pairs of pliers from Gearwrench and Channellock that are developing splits in the rubber grips. Is there anyway to re-dip or buy replacements for these?

I've seen people online that use plasti-dip. I have no first hand experience with it though

These from Klein have been recommended when this question was asked before. Also the Snap on man is said to have some.

Plasti dip in my experience has not been durable enough.

I do and it's garbage. All it is is thick paint and it doesn't hold up. Thick heat shrink tubing is much better but try and get replacement grips.

Skip the plasti-dip for handles. I put 7 coats on some pliers and at first liked the results, but later found that it was not durable enough

Ive always wondered how well whiskey wax would work for new grips. Wonder what Makers Mark would say if i brought a set of pliers to dip while on the tour.2a973ce17dc27143dfb67723893fa18a.jpg

Thanks to all for the input. I too have tried plasti dip years ago and found it to be total garbage. I really like those Klein grips.

I guess it depends on how much you like your old pliers or how much you like the Klein replacement handles but $9 seems expensive for 2 pieces of plastic. With all the sales and deals, I could get a nice pair of new pliers for just a bit more. How much did those Gearwrench and Channellock pliers originally cost? Much more than $9?

I've been using tennis/racquetball grips but it doesn't last long and needs frequent replacement... just like it does on racquets. I just had some extras so I thought I'd use them up.

Seems like replacement pliers grips would be a good addition to the vinyl products from Ulmann Devices but I don't think they make any. They make those vinyl bit holders so it seems like something they should do.

A quick search on Ebay pulled up a few handle replacements for pliers. Here's one that's 4 pieces for $6:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/173788050776 I don't know if it's any good.

I started hoarding the grips from every cheap junk pair of pliers that come my way.
The pliers are given away, the grips get squirreled away.
When I need some for something, out comes my little bucket of grips.

I replaced the big wide grips on my Irwin (NWS) lineman pliers with the Klein. I gave up on finding what i really wanted, which was a thin vinyl type grip. They arent that bad. They ARENT soft, theres no real cushion to them at all, but the raised thread on them kinda helps with grip. They are thicker than channellock style grips, but thinner than comfort or wide grips. The Kleins are available in several sizes, so make sure you get what you need.

All you need to do is throw them in a pot with simmering water for 10 minutes, and bang them on with a rubber mallet or hammer to get them all the way up.

What ive seen online some other people use, is those rubber cow milking things.. that cut the rubber tubes off and use them as grips. Interesting, but not for me. You may like em.

These things. You can find the whole part on ebay, I’m sure amazon too.
