Any tips?

I have metal socket rails, wrench racks and screwdriver racks from Sears. Now my toolbox is looking nicely organized except for the pliers drawer.

With all the tools I'm picking up lately it's pretty crowded in there. I have them in a rather deep drawer soi'm thinking of a way to make a top and bottom "tier". Maybe some of the plastic trays you find at the tops of carpenter toolboxes?

Any good ideas?

69 configuration? I'm not familiar with that position-er-configuration. Maybe you could direct me to someplace on the web that would have a pictorial (or even a video) of what you are suggesting?

I took out a lot of the odd tools I had in that drawer and that helped clear some space so that I can "69 em". I may move them to a thin drawer soon.
I need fewer deep drawers and more thin ones.

Hey, the pliers rack looks like a great idea! I think I can do that with wood.

That pliers rack is a great concept but the vinyl coated wire is cheesy as hell; it reminds me of the closet shelving they're always trying to sell at Home Depot.

Actually, now that i look at it, that looks a lot like some of the wire CD holders I used to have. I think we trashed them years ago.

Maybe I can find something like it at the dollar store. Each CD space is approx the size of plier handles. Cut it in half and you're good to go.

Agreed. A length of 3-4" wide, 3/8" or 1/2" ply... some dados... and a ****-load of hardboard triangles...

My biggest issue would be I'd have to reorganize... as my plier drawer is shallow and this set up would need a deep drawer.

Even in a 69 configuration, the drawer maxed out on space with some stacked and others still in OE tool-wraps packed in other spaces... not convienent.

I bought two cd racks at the Habitat for Humanity store yesterday. Cut the legs off, cut the racks down the middle to make two racks and now they look almost exactly like the plier racks in those pictures.

Put one in my file drawer this morning and recovered almost half the space in the drawer.

2 cd racks= 4 racks for pliers, wrenches, files etc. Total cost=$1. :)

Coach James, could I see a picture of the type of cd rack you are speaking of? Maybe a pic of them split into storage as well?

All you need is a 15 year old boy. Give him a day or two and you'll have no problem organizing the one pair of pliers you can find on 10 acres.
Of course that gives you a good reason to own a metal detector.

I wish I would have known about the plier racks before I built the drawer for my toolbox about a month ago. Here is what I did to my 4" drawer in my toolbox. I don't have any pics of the cutout foam lining the drawer, but you guys have all seen that before anyway.

Very nice Quiksilver! What did you use for the sides of the 'shelf'? Is it on rails or just wrapped in metal?

The entire shelf is actually on a 16" drawer slide that I bought from one of the big box stores. It's rated at 100lbs.;)

I will try to get some pictures of that drawer, with the foam cutouts, this weekend.

That looks like nothing more that the boxstore wire shelving with a few bends. And you can now get that shelving in black or charcoal. Might be worth buying a small shelf and bending one or two up for no more than what it cost. You can always give a buddy one.

Here's the best I could do. I might try to fab something up if I find some cheapo wire CD holders.
I am waiting for a set of Craftsman pliers to go on sale for a good price. I used to have these in with a bunch of other things and it was a mess.

I need more tools!

Your right...it looks alot like this shelf. A few cuts and hopefully help from my friend with a brake press for the bends and I will try and make my own.
