I have seen any number of threads on pliers and storing them, but I am still running into an issue.

I have a mixture of pliers and plier type tools. And many of them fit into a fairly standard wire rack fairly well. But then there are a bunch of them that don't for various reasons. Some are spring loaded open so they don't fit, some are just too big, some are too long.

What do y'all do with these types? Just lay them flat in a drawer?

I used a deeper drawer or lay them flat. My Vice Grip 11Rs and a couple that spring open stand up in the rack no problem. I also used a block with holes drilled to stand up short items like precision type or ignition pliers.

On some of the bigger ones, I spread apart the wire rack a little. I have some pretty big ones in the back. I took the spring out of my bigger snap ring and put it a small box with the additional tips. I just put it back in when I go to use them. See on the right side. On some others I use a paper clip to make a clip to hold some jaws partially closed so they are not too tall to fit in the drawer. See the Blue Points with blue handle on the left towards the back.

I used a piece of wire across the back to hold it down and in a smaller drawer the pliers fit under the front lip of the drawer.

I made my own rack, out of some wire shelving, which I bent at the school I teach at in the sheet metal shop

For spring loaded pliers, I made a simple loop with a zip tie to hold them closed while in storage

In this picture, I was excited to see how well it would work before filling up the drawer completely.

I dont have a picture ( I'm inside now) but I'll post a video of my box....for spring loaded pliers I take cable ties and just make them the size to hold them closed and when in use I keep the tie in the plier spot.

Wire Heat Shrink... for those pliers with the spring... I cut and shrink (sometimes 2 or 3 layers) heat shrink into a "Cap" for the pliers tip. Works well as a sheath and keeps the handles manageable.

We used to have a member here at GJ that made... plier racks... great design... works fantastic... sad I only bought 2 from him
