Can someone tell me what the internals consist of?

Have one with nothing but a gear and spring. What contacts the gear teeth? Is there also a BB under the spring? Thanks.

There are two springs, two pawls, the selector and the selector switch. Then there's the drive gear, the back plate and two screws. No ball bearings.

The springs push the pawls against the drive gear. The selector determines which one contacts the gear.

Get a repair kit. You'll be all set.

Any early nonreversible would probably be instructive, 3bay, even a 4751, or a 5451, if nobody has a 5251. A 5248 would help, too. Female nonreversible, no plug. The only one I ever had (4748) I never had apart, sorry. Kicking myself now. Shortsighted and dim curiosity. I know there are several on the Plomb thread. Probably just need the right guys to see this thread.
