The first couple years of Proto, did they have any physical differences at all? Are the guts of ratchets and metal used the same?

Most of the stuff was the same. Ratchet guys should be. They added some additional wrenches in the transition year of 1950-51 where they dual marked their tools. Additions include long series DBEs and combos along with metric DOEs.

So, around 1950 Plomb stopped being marked PLOMB? I pick up plomb stuff often just because they're old. I just joined the forum and man am I glad to know I'm not alone with this old tool affliction! I've stumbled into some pretty cool S-K finds too.

"S-K Chrome" was the 2nd generation of SK sockets. They were not a preminum series of tools but they were probably marked such when sockets were primarily switching from nickel plating to chrome.
