I wax my tool too, my wife says it make it look bigger, but I tell that all bushes look small compared to redwood.

Seriously how does the wax affect grip. I like to use WD40 when they have been out in the rain or get hunky grease that a rag won't take care of, but it does affect grip, where I have wipe off the WD40 to an extent almost defeating the purpose but it does get into the metal.

Could you post a picture of the wax, I would like to give it a try.

Looks good!!! Vinegar is good in some instances. I usually avoid it on anything but bare steel.

I;ve done it for some time.
Especially on old hammers.

A $2.38 gallon of white vinegar will turn a $1 grunge hammer head into a nearly new $10 head in a week. Just add new handle and it's a $20 new hammer.

Voila'.

when you start scrubbing with the wire brush under running water all of the rust and discoloration usually comes right off.

You've got it - Also - on satin chrome and bare steel (especially on those Plomb pebble backgrounds) I've had incredible success using a hand wire brush (fine) and gojo orange soap to scrub then scrub off under running water.

The results are excellent!

I had good results on a badly rusted 3-jaw lathe chuck too, and on a set of really rusty tractor spin-out rim locks.

This is the stuff I like to use:

It's pricey (about $25 for a 200ml can) but lasts a long time because a little dab goes a long ways. Johnson's Paste Wax might work as well. It's certainly cheaper.

It is great stuff. I use it on my guns, keeps the rust and finger prints away from my collectables. Plus after you shoot all the guns needs is a quick wipe down and it looks like new.
