Cool find! I bet that was part of a large set and not sold separately and hence why it could be missing from the catalogs.

Sent directly from the Snap On Kool Aid factory.

I know I've seen it in one of my catalogs. I'll have to go find which one. I've always wanted to find one pre-proto. I've seen a few Proto LA's. Awesome score for 2 bucks! Definite suckage.

Nice find!

I have a "351" as pictured above. It's a nice looking design, but unfortunately, the fixture the plastic handles are mounted on was a die-cast part and broke... Just too much leverage at the base while in actual use. One of these days I'll put way too much work into fabricating another one out of steel but in the meantime I use a good, solid Proto Los Angeles.

so these are a 1940 piece?

1940 appears to be the first catalog they appeared in, but they're in all the rest of the 1940s catalogs too.

The Plomb No. 352 heavy-duty hacksaw, which came out later in the 1940s, and continued as a Proto model into the 1980s, was one of the best hacksaw frames ever made by anybody anywhere.

Just found one of these myself this weekend. Los Angeles 352 version. No cracks in the handles, although there's a little warpage to them from age. Never knew these even existed.

Did proto or PLOMB make hacksaws? They look very similar to millers-falls hacksaws
I don't know. When this thread was started back in 2013, it should have been placed in the Vintage section where all the Plomb experts hang. I bet at least one of them know the answer to that.

Just picked up a 360 proto and this is like the only thread mentioning them anywhere.
Found it a restore for $5... needed a hacksaw and this one was the only non plastic saw they had. I really like the looks of that 352 posted above.
