Do not look at that ratchet and never ever pick it up again. They are very dangerous and addictive. If you don't listen to my advice, you end up like the rest of us. Your best course of action is to send it to me immediately!!!:bounce:

OH, welcome, jump right on in, the water is warm.

Darn you guys!! I was happy just turning bolts with these tools for 40 years. after all whats the difference, right?. Now I have spent most of my evening looking at wrenches that I have had forever with a jaundiced eye. Which ones are "collectable"? and which ones can I use for "work"
And all these new names! I thought Vlcheck was some Russian guy who had these wrenches ahead of me. And do I REALLY need an 1 1/8 flare nut wrench, maybe I can trade it for some of those missing sockets...

It's all your fault!!

I do not own a single Plomb tool, and am wondering if I buy one, will I get "infected." Or, maybe I am immune? I mean, they are cool looking and all, but other than that...?

Play it safe and just say no. I have a plomb addiction. And I don't want help, (except if you want to sell me your plomb tools)!

Plomb tools were made from hazardous materials. If you send me the ratchet with $10 I'll dispose of it properly.:lol_hitti

The first time I saw one of their ratchets on a table at an estate sale, I said THAT baby's going home with me!

Dude, have you seen a doctor??

Wow, now I know why I liked those Proto line wrenches so much. That handle really does it for me.

...oh crud, it's starting...

Those pictures are only part of his stuff! Seeing a doctor will not help. There is no cure. You better just stick to the BMW's and Snap-On. :lol_hitti

I bought more snap on in the past few months than plomb, to try to cure my problem, but it isn't helping all that much.... I do prefer women, but then they move on, I am only left with my tools, which never let me down or leave me hanging.

I really think that the Plomb era tools (esp. pebble grain wrenches/ratchets) are imbued with a design esthetic that is very visually pleasing and historically a distinct, classy, and beautiful design movement.... Art Deco! I think the tool designers at Plomb put allot of care, love, and attention to detail in their tools; just the Plomb letterforms alone, are so indicative of the Art Deco design movement; much less the shape of the tools! I think once you have one in your hand; you begin to appreciate the design of these tools! :)
When I was taking Art History classes; I was always drawn to the Art Deco design movement; time and again! The design of things were incredibly attractive and just draws you in! Check out some links below for examples of Art Deco design in art, graphics, architecture, auto, locomotive and so many other fields/objects... :)

That's what I thought 3 months ago. Then I searched my tool box. Then I started comparing how a wrench felt to use. Then how they looked. I have been to a flea market, auction, responding to a CL ad or bidding on ebay every week. I spent $1100. this weekend on tools and while I will sell most of them. some will never have a price tag attached and all will be cleaned handled, researched and cataloged. Since finding this site, I spend at least 2 to 3 hours a day playing with tools. I drove 400 miles today to pick up a box and tools I bought on ebay. And loved it. OH, them vlcheck feel real nice>

skipskip, welcome and sorry about your luck:bounce::):bounce:

This is good information. I've often wondered about my Daddy's tools, which I now have. He must have been feeling flush in the 30's or 40's. 3/8 drive, 1/2 drive. A bunch of wrenches. Plus, I still have the Plomb tool box that they came in.

Can you give us some pictures of your daddy's tool box,and the contents therein.

Sorry, but I can't get you photos or such for a while. I'm currently moving everything in to a new house. Nothing spectacular, but I'll end up with a 900 sq ft garage with 10.5 ft ceilings.
Then when I'm done moving, I'm off to Alaska until the end of July. So after that, I can assist.
