I was checking out some Plumb hammers at a local electronics shop a few months ago, and all of the Plumb hammers hanging on their racks were from China.

Yeah, they've been that way since 1997 when Prumb outsourced its whole forging operation to China.

OT, but:

This morning's newspaper reported the Chinese are demanding intellectual property from auto makers in return for being able to sell in China. China wants to become the world leader in battery powered cars. But they don't have the technology to do that (at this time). So their "deal" with automakers worldwide is: Give us your technology and intellectual property, and you may sell here. Once we reverse-engineer what you are doing, we will compete you out of business with state-funded factories.

No surprise that automakers are unhappy with this offer, which is akin to telling somebody that you would be happy to assist in their suicide, but can you borrow their gun to help.

What did they steal the name or something? They should inherit all the legal mess that cased them to change to Proto.

OT - Last year, popular mechanics did a nice story on China's thirst for technology and what they are willing to do for it.

Actually, if you do a quck Google search, you will find dozens of stories of China stealling everything from green technology to Russian Jets. It seems they are also willing to steal as well as blackmail for what they want.

I find it sad that America has done all it can to ensure a fair and equal trade world wide from which we have lost millions of manufacturing jobs to low paying competing nations. I am for Free Market but China does not play fair.

Now, lets return to the original discussion.
