Plomb puller set.. age?

Went back to the junk shop & grabbed the puller set. What did I buy?

Those are heavy duty. I think they pertain to big ole fly wheels. I know I could use them for some fly wheels on some hit miss engines.

Those are now listed by Proto, the new name for Plomb post lawsuit, as a 10-ton puller. One of the best made, and nice in the original box. That one, being in a green box, is most likely from the end of WWII.

I stumbled across a similar but unmarked puller just like that. Got outbid on the pebble proto that I really wanted a few weeks earlier. Very nice, heavy duty setup.. Already pulled 4 or 5 bobcat hubs off lol!

Looks like they have mostly kept the same numbering scheme, here is mine from a GS last year.





Proto 10 T Puller (4011) with 4 jaws 4015 medium , 4016 long, 4017 Long Skinny, 4018 Short Cap Screw, 4019 Box. 3/4" Drive. I did not look for a number on the screw.

I have the 4011 puller as well. It looks like yours has the "pebble" design on the yoke. That puts it about 1946-48, just before the name change.

When I worked at a commercial A/C shop in the late 90's I needed to pull off an evap cooler blower wheel without damaging it. Apparently they were too expensive to get. The service supervisor had a puller set like those pictured, and he'd loan it out to technicians as they needed it. Because it was so expensive each of us normal Joe's couldn't afford to have our own. It did a sweet job of extracting rusty pulleys. Always wanted o get one.
