I am not trying to make money on stuff, I just have fun collecting it. If someone has the get up and go to find it for me and list it on ebay, I am happy to pay them for that effort. Otherwise many fine tools may wind up scrapped!

I was just joking about the likelihood of bidding against each other is all. I know everyone realizes that and has fun with that, too. (Although I bet you're each congenially hoping everyone else is sleeping on the job or missing a sale that is poorly worded that you found, etc.) Anyway, realizing all that is one thing. Posting hot deals though is like the old saw about never telling another fishermen where your favorite hole is, it's guaranteed to wind up in some tangled lines. That is the interesting dynamic. The friendly competition. But the moment has passed. I was just joshing.

I was surprised by the arm’s length of 4751 ratchets that seller had up. Not to mention the other duplicate tools. Prices were up there though. Must have been quite a collection.

Not my usual area of plomb interest either. I just could not resist the coolness of it. I am guessing but owner probably made the box.

Just to update my post from yesterday.........

In 1915, Alphonse Plomb disappears from the Los Angeles City Directories, and doesn't show up again until 1923, as a blacksmith. It's also interesting to note that Plomb is not listed under tool manufacturers in 1915.

In 1916, the directory carries Plomb Tool Manufacturing Company for the first time under Tool Manufacturers.

Another important note about 1916 is that Jacob Weninger is listed separately as a tool manufacturer in the directory. By 1917 he's listed as Plomb's Foreman.

The 1918 Directory is interesting as it's the first mention of any association of C. H. Williams with Plomb.

This and the next post will carry the extracts from the directories in chronological order.

I get your point about Weninger being 16 in 1907. If those are in fact the big 3, the guy on the left looks youngest despite the 'stache if this is a 1915 pic instead of 1907 I suppose that could be a 24 year old. That would make Al what? like 45? hmmm.
This picture has always been a mystery. I remember asking old timers which one was which ( shrugs all around) and trying to figure out what all kind of tools they had laid out.
Yeah, looks like the story needs to be cleaned up a bit. Hell, they didn't even get the "3 German immigrants" part right. This is great stuff Twertsy.

The large collection belonged to George (ROB) Robin. He lived in Bend, OR when he passed away. He was in his late 90's. His survivors wanted to sell the whole lot as a bundle, which was then bought by the people selling it on eBay.

It says "Tool Mfg. Co." The census is asking what industry he works in and he says he works for a tool manufacturing company. I have read a lot of old censuses doing geneological research and I don't ever remember seeing one that tells the name of the employer. So this is pretty standard. He could have been working for Plomb or any other tool manufacturer in his locale. No way to know a specific employer from census.

Got this old green box in the mail today!! I notoced right away hiw much bigger it wad than my other 1/4 boxes. Now to figure out what all goes in it and fill it up! Just need a Round O 3/8 box now.

15 years ago I could go to the flea market and always come away with a handful of Plomb tools. Then about 10 years ago it seemed like it just dried up and I usually don't find any or maybe 1. I was pleasantly surprised at the mid week flea market here this week when I found this 5283 PLOMB speeder for $2.00. With a deep socket on it will be just about the right length for a walking cane.

That is the box for the heavy duty puller. The cross part goes in the top, screw in the middle and the hook parts go in the bottom. I have a Proto LA one.

I have a Snap-On speeder about that same size that I found at a swap meet for a similar price. I suppose because of its unusual length and that people just don't use them anymore (most prefer using an electric driver instead) is why they go for such little money.

It only arrived a couple of hours ago. I haven’t decided whether I should try to do it cold or to fire up the hot wrench. (Torch) I’ll work on it tomorrow after hitting some sales. The smoke is so bad in the Bay Area from the Butte County fire I almost hate to go outside. This was the view out of our windshield this morning. Sunglasses were unnecessary.

Here is how that box looks filled with the wartime-finish pieces in place. I believe I may have a extra set of arms/hooks tucked in there.
