P&c did make a funky extension like that
I am betting the set is all P&C minus whatever broke and was replace by Plomb stuff when Plomb bought them outP&c did make a funky extension like that
Hey Drives,Damon: we were just talking about 1 inch sockets and you post up a picture of an entire set. if I was closer I might take a road trip for those so hopefully somebody will get them that can clean them up and post a few more pics.
thanks for posting the pics!!
ALL: I posted these new old stock Proto leather wrench wraps over in the Proto thread, but i'm more likely to fill them with Plvmb wrenches. anybody have a favorite leather conditioner?
more pics on Proto thread.
I've used it for years on old and new leather with good results. I've read about some using straight glycerin, too.ALL: TYM mentions that he likes PECARD leather conditioner and I hadn't heard of it. anybody else use it or know of it or do you have another leather conditioner for old leather wrench wraps?
You guys are trying to fish in my pond, eh?

Don't be a tease. No likes a tease.YES! "All in the Family"!
All will be revealed sooner rather than later, since the set is now in the hands of a GJ member and Plomb collector in the general vicinity - which rules me out!wned2:

Yes we need a full debrief on the set. My bet the only Plomb is the ratchet. The rest must be P&C. Any takers?[emoji1]HAHAHA. I was trying to set Uniau up, and didn't realize he already posted a teaser as I was doing that, so I edited that part.
Let's gooooooo! Post the close-ups!!! [emoji38]
EDIT: Btw, just for the record - that was acquired in LESS THAN 24 HOURS! [emoji38]

Oh, wow, even better. And even more plausible for wartime production for Plomb to fill the orders any way they could, even with mixed sets, although the rat could've been added later by a PO. Were P&C 1-inch drive sockets cross-drilled like Plomb 1-inch drive sockets for turning with the bar of the sliding tee bar?The P&C box is Olive Drab under the terrible repaint.
Very nice. Glad to see that someone here got it. Are we going to have to start to section off territories?[emoji1]With rush hour traffic, it look me about 50 minutes round trip. Just across the river from me.
I don’t think that set came with a ratchet originally. I’m about to go look at some catalogs.
EDIT: no cross drilled holes. The sockets remind me of the plomb WF sockets with the rounded bottom edge and straight walls.
Very nice. Glad to see that someone here got it. Are we going to have to start to section off territories?[emoji1]

Looks like a complete one-inch drive socket set, listed as make offer.
Too far for me but maybe someone else will want it.

I've exclusively used the Classic Leather Care on old and new leather (it does temporarily darken the leather a bit). I haven't tried the Antique Leather Care. Either should do the trick and not drastically change the character of the leather like Neatsfoot oil.Tym: thanks again and since you posted twice about it I had to look up the product and even watched the youtube video where CEO showing the factory in Green Bay, WI where it's made.
which product would you use for flat leather wraps like mine and do you use on your belts and other leather products?
All: sorry to hijack the thread a bit, but I'd bet all of us have some sort of old leather product we'd like to save or keep in great shape.
here's the web site to save you all a bit of time googling: https://pecard.com/
plus once I fill up these with Proto or Plvmb goodness I bet they'll look even better.
cheers
Ok, who bought this? It is not available any more.
I believe that it was purchased by a noted P&C collector in Ohio. See post 7493.
, I don't know about 'noted collector', but I pick up the good stuff when I can (with a little help from my friends).
So, in the '48 P&C catalog, the almost exact match for that set shows up. Pebble ratchet and all. You can't read the pebble, but it is clearly one.

or are the sockets P&C?, I don't know about 'noted collector', but I pick up the good stuff when I can (with a little help from my friends).
I've got what will fit of the set soaking in a 5 gallon bucket of evaporust right now. I'll clean them off and post some images this evening.![]()
Are the sliding T and the sockets marked P&C?Agree. However, the number of pieces is different. The set I bought has 6 sockets (all 12pt), 2 extensions, a sliding T (not able to be separated like the one in the catalog image), and of course, the ratchet - Unplated and marked 'Made In The USA'.
No piece or set too big or too small, no location too far for this group! It certainly stirred more interest that I imagined it would!
I'd say you helped.So.... I was wondering if I helped or hurt by posting the Marketplace ad? I wouldn't have posted an eBay auction in case a member was already bidding.
Are the sliding T and the sockets marked P&C?

I'm thinking that this 'set' must have been immediate post Plomb acquisition. The sliding T and sockets were either stock items or still being made the pre-acquisition way. That 1948 P&C catalog excerpt is curious. The reason most 3/4- and 1-inch drive T-handles that come apart can come apart is so the bar can be used to turn sockets that are cross-drilled with a hole for the bar. The Sliding T in the P&C set comes apart, but the sockets are not cross-drilled. This needs more thought.

Sockets are all P&C. The Big Bertha has the original drive plug and works like a dream. Now I just need to get all that paint off of everything!AND yes i'm excited to see if those are 1 inch Plvmb sockets and if that ratchet is actually a working 1 inch big bertha too.
I'd say you helped.I had been traveling for work all day and got home at about midnight. With all the family asleep, what's a guy to do but browse The GJ of course! I immediately messaged the seller and he messaged me back the next morning. So, Thanks!
That is a nice assortment.I was at the work propulsion shop where I noticed a box of old machine wrenches. I saw a plomb and started digging around. I found these and snapped a few pictures for you guys. Some modified ones as well. I like the war finish marking!

What was Plomb and was P&C?I'm still cleaning this P&C set up, but here's a handful of pictures. I'll post more over in the P&C thread after a bit.
The box still needs some work. Originally Olive Drab, but the lid has been repainted along with all the tools. I'm still working on getting paint off of the tools.
Here's the set in the box - someone must have used a bar extension on the sliding T to bend it like that:

Ratchet guts. Looks like new in there:
