Slowly processing the way too large load of uncleaned tools in the basement...
Plomb 1216 and 1228 combos, 5260 3/8" extension, 5249 ratchet.

IMG_3505.jpg

The 1228 has some interesting markings on the back, military maybe?

IMG_3506.jpg

I have found wartime Duro-Chrome/D-I tools with those same Navy markings.

Red letter day here at Rubiconville! Being down to mostly "unicorns" left to find, I think this is only the third piece I have managed to add to my WF contract set all year. The long missing WF-86 DBE has been acquired to complete the DBE portion of my set!! This is certainly the first that I've put my hands on and only the second I have ever seen, having spotted one online a few years ago and have it slip away. Up to now, I don't think I've ever seen a pic of one on this thread so I'm happy to be able to document it as well as a photo of the entire DBE part of the set.

Back in 2019 (partially shown in the two links below) we had a discussion about the "N" designation on Plomb tools. Thought I'd show this 3039-N DOE that I have (and didn't know it!) and see if we think this falls in the same Navy contract camp?

I can‘t say for sure about the N suffix but I have Plomb wrenches marked NAF that are for sure Navel aircraft tools.
Here are my Plomb estate sale finds today.

Here are a few Plomb wrenches out of the evaporust. Most were acquired in a lot sale from the site which shall not be named but a few may be estate/garage sale finds. I've lost track at this point. DBE's are 1150, WF-84, 1140, 1139, and 1130. 3035 and 3030 DOE, and a 1218 combo.

Today I found an extremely rare combination box end / pry bar. Possibly one of a kind.

Transitionals!
Those would certainly look good on my transitional marked boards! I am trying to complete the combo set right now and am looking for little guys and the big guys. The middle ones seem much easy to find

Also pulled this oily but remarkably intact earlier style puller board. A few of the hooks are loose or bent but I will get them fixed and re glued! Super stoked to get a wartime logo board! At some point someone covered the logo with the new marketing campaign cover up sticker that was sent out to all dealers

Found two DOE wrenches today. The older one wasn’t machined properly and the ends have been opened up. The 9/16” end measures 9/16” but the 1/2” is 7/16”.

I have a couple of combo’s and doe’s that have that machined opening. I always wondered why they appeared like that. Now I know.

A few recent finds, 5276 wobble socket, 3025 DOE, the ratchet looks like a Plomb/Proto to me but there are no markings on it anywhere. Is this legit or maybe a foreign copy? Last is an old screwdriver with a really gnarly owners mark on the other side.

The ratchet is plomb made. Right after the war, Sears sold 1/4 drive sets with plomb unmarked ratchets and another maker’s sockets. It’s not a copy

Awesome, thanks for the info! I've had a really tough time finding Plomb 1/4" ratchets, I think this might be the first actually...

A bunch of Plomb sockets at the Flea Market

I am not a very good "don't leave a stone unturned" guy
Just don't have the patience. Especially looking at tons of junk and **** at the Flea Market.
But...
Something drew me to a box with bicycle parts, of all things!
Something caught my eye or I heard my name being called....

Here's a 3039 that I've had for years. It was thinned out on the 3/4" side to hold the thin solenoid nut behind the cables on big truck starters (back in the '70s) while removing the outer nut. I was using it to remove an 02 sensor and I took a good look at to see who made it and what I could find out about it. (I have time these days) Knowing what I know now, coupled with the fact it was apparently made in 1941, I would have found another wrench to modify.

Use'em if you got'em! The "-S" suffix was given for a year or two to an "Industrial" line of DOE's. Attached is from catalog 18A.

Bunch of NOS military boxes sockets listed on the bay now. Thought this had a cool logo so I pulled the trigger.
Nice! It looks like the same seller I got mine from that I posted a couple pages back but you got it a few bucks cheaper. It is interesting that it looks like the same exact thing but doesn’t have the orange alligator skin box.

I was immediately thinking about yours when I saw these listed. I think yours was for the Nordstrom market while my box was more low brow 😂
