Twertsy, you realize this means you will now need to fill this one up as well in addition to all of your proto tool boards :)[emoji38]_hitti
Um, ya........that's beginning to sink in........I'm going strictly Proto LA on the Rotomart

Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

I went to a nearby tool store and saw that they were having a going out of business sale. I checked the hand tool racks and found a few gems in there...spent $40 total and got a lot for my money. I scored these three pebble PROTO Las Angeles combo wrenches, the smallest one (7/16") is pretty rough but the 1 1/4" is in great shape.

Bought this little beauty on ebay...with the box! I might have paid a premium but it is a nice little ratchet and a vintage box.

Not being mean, but I was watching that too and have to say. Did you ever pay a premium. Still an awesome set none the less.

I probably paid too much but they seem to be harder to find than larger sizes, plus the box is in decent shape. I've seen just the box sell for $25! :eyecrazy: I wish it had more plomb sockets, it only had 3 (and 5 old blackhawk sockets).

I am envious of those display boards. Awesome!

Edit: The tool store I spoke of had a Proto LA 3/8" drive ratchet. I didn't buy it, I'm not sure if it is rare/collectible.

Duro: i think you did awesome buying the little Plvmb tool box and ratchet. i know i'd like that box. i bet you could get $20 for the ratchet if you even wanted to sell, but i wouldn't sell the box.

i'm not sure i have a 3/8 ratchet. i know I've got an 1 inch, 3/4, 1/2 and 1/4 so what is the guy asking for it?

thanks for posting your finds

They have some other older Fleet, Barcaloy, SK, Craftsman, challenger by proto, and newer proto (70s). If you guys have any specifics I'll go look for them. I'm headed there Monday. PM me a list!

Duro: i'll be a few days or months before i can see if i own or don't own a 3/8 ratchet and i might own 3 of them because i have a few boxes to go through that i picked up last year. thanks for the offer though and since i live in Seattle we might have to do a little horse trading someday in the future like i do with a few other members down your way. don't be afraid to buy extra if you get a chance for a good price because i'm sure there are a few of us that might be able to use even a common one for our sets.

cheers

ALL: so i was looking for a tool to take apart one of my vises and found one of my boxes of PLVMB wrenches and tools. i know I've got a few more, but thought i'd post these because i did find a 3/8 inch ratchet and i think it's a lawsuit one. i'll take more pictures if anybody asks for something special they might see in the box. or i'll try to spiff them up a bit and take a few more group shots.

Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

All: i had a couple requests to show a few of my Plvmb ratchets so here they are and a few breaker bars that were in that box. i found 2 other boxes full of plvmb, but no body wants to see them so i'll just wait until i get a real plvmb roller tool box to put them in. ok?

cheers and if you want me to show off the sockets in this box i think i have the 32 nd's included up to 5/8 or 3/4 and the biggest one in this box is 1.25.

Smoke: i did know i had these and just was hoping to show them off all polished up and clean because some of my Plvmb have 80 years of dust on them and are like new under it. I've been searching high and low except not on Ebay for these gems.

so what is the best way to clean up these awesome tools so i can post a few more?

Drives, I was just giving you a hard time :D You are a senior member while I am still a peon in terms of total posts and total knowledge so we should be asking you how to clean them! In terms of the drive tools you posted, they all look really clean to me. Do they need more cleaning? When ever I get plvmb tools, if they are rusty, I remove all surface rust with a wire brush or rust penetrant but not enough to take off the finish. With the exception of a few rare plvmb items, all my plvmb tools are users so I clean them but enjoy them while using them. When I get some free time I may dig out all the plvmb items I have and take a group photo. If I had to guess I would probably have over 200 items which I know is not very many compared to some of you guys.

Smoke: i see senior member under your name too and thanks for the method you like to use. Half my posts or maybe more are asking questions so i can keep learning. i try to learn something every day and if i spend time on GJ that day i usually surpass that amount easily. thanks and yes i think you should post a few family photos of all your Plvmb tools since you and we like them so much.

BTW i know you meant well teasing me and it was true because i have several areas still to check for some more PLVMB

Twertsy: thanks

Ask and you shall receive :)

I decided to take a few pictures but did manage to assemble all my plvmb drive tools together. Bear in mind I am a sick twisted plvmb/proto/p&c tool aholic and I had to limit my self to only plvmb. I probably have double this amount of proto/p&c tools as well:D

My ratchets/ extensions/speed bars

They range from 3/4 ratchet to all the way down to 3/8ths. I don't have any 1/4 drive stuff yet... If any one has internal guts for the 3/4 ratchet I would buy them!

Probably one of my most favorite plvmb wrench sets! I love using them when working on cars (I enjoy working on older American cars which only use standard wrench sizes:p) If you look closely you can see that the top wrench is a huge offset size. 1 1/4 and 1 1/16. It is pretty old. Maybe you guys can fill me in with some info, on this wrench it has a smaller size before the size of the wrench. It says 3/4 USS 1 1/4 Pat. Pen. Do you guys know why this is??

Oversize box end with odd description- I think the 3/4 may refer to the bolt size??

I will post more of my collection when I have some time!

Go to your local proto dealer...they may have the replacement parts for the ratchet. I am headed to buy a rebuild kit for my 1/4" plomb ratchet this week, I can see if they have a rebuild kit if you shoot me the part number.

Hey, that's a really good idea! For what ever reason I knew that the PROTO rebuild kits fit the old plvmb stuff but never crossed the 2 on this ratchet:bowdown: I also need a new selector switch as well which looks like the rebuild kits come with them. Good call! Thanks for the offer but I will hold off for a little while. My tool budget is low right now and I have yet to use a 3/4 ratchet so it is not a real pressing need as of yet :)

Smoke: i have a 1 inch Plvmb ratchet I've posted on this thread a few months ago that does have the newer Proto repair kit installed. i too need one for my 3/4 inch Plvmb ratchet and let me know if you find one and how much and where to order it when you are ready.

thanks for sharing your pictures and waiting for more. i also have a box of P & C and Proto because I think i like old tools that have a name that starts with P.

Duro: i heard that you can still get rebuild kits for our Plvmb and i probably should get them for the ratchets i need them for before i can't some day. thanks

I found a bunch of 3/4 rebuild kits on amazon and ebay. Their are kits on zoro, grainger, etc. The cheapest kit I found was on amazon with my prime membership was $22 with free shipping. I looked at the pictures and it looks like it comes with everything I need to get the old girl up and running. I will post up in the future when I rebuild it!

The proto rebuild kit was $14 for my 3/8" ratchet... I'll stop and get a quote for the 3/4" kit.

Someone musta beat on it to ruin a Proto/Plomb 3/4 internal. I have 3 and cleaned them up and lubed them and they're smooth as butter

This really is a disease.
Two weeks ago I didn't know what a Grease Bar was. (aka Shackle Bar, aka Rattlesnake Bar)
Since then, I've found four of them. FOUR. Including these two Plomb 2110's.
The other two are KenTool.

I think it was parted out because when I bought it I knew it was missing some parts but the exterior was in decent shape so I bought it for $20. The mechanism and plate is there but the springs, 1 cover screw are missing and the selector is damaged like someone did beat on it so you are right! If I get one of these kits I can fix everything and have a good 3/4 ratchet and then I can sell my 3/4 drive wright.

Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

Found some cool wrenches today at the used tool outlet. The little Proto adjustable isn't that old, but it is in beautiful shape. The bigger adjustable has a little surface rust but is in decent shape otherwise and it is a Los Angeles era tool. The 3/8" ratchet is also a Los Angeles era tool. I found the big PLOMB under a bunch of other tools...someone stashed it I think.

Score! I bought these and two Thorsen wrenches(3/8" and 7/16"), a Diamond SK 12" extension, two VLCHEK combo wrenches (5/8" and 7/8"), a rubber handled 3/8" Wright breaker bar, and a 13/16" Indestro Super combo wrench for $25. Not as good as the SK score today for $15, but pretty good. :)

Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

Scored a really nice condition 1/2" drive PLOMB socket set. It is missing the 1/2" and 3/4" sockets (hint hint ;) ) but it is otherwise in excellent condition. The chrome is not polished (nickel plated?) but the coating is only missing in a few places, like on the actual ratchet drive. It doesn't look like it was used very much.

Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

There are many more 1/2" drive sockets than the 8 you have and the 2 you're looking for. There are 19 different standard 12-point, twelve deep 12-point, twelve standard 8-point, and five universal 12-point. And then there's the 65xx impacts.

I have the two you're looking for and several others. I'll check condition and finish and PM you later.

You are so right. I have almost the full set of 1/2 drive short non impact sockets. The set has a ton of 32nd size increments. Me and my ocd, I tried to put the set in my socket trays but they don't have spots for the 32nds  P.S. there are also 6pt 1/2 drive sockets in this set as well so when you think you are done you are just getting started :)

Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

It's funny...why two breaker bar lengths? I guess complete is relative, I just thought it had common sockets, etc. no universal though...I'm already looking for the missing pieces.
