We have lots of Plomb/Proto finds here in the NW but nothing like you SoCal folks. I am envious. Nice finds!

Brian

I find em at swap meets here in Cali a buck a piece and buy them. I'll find them later. Can't be digging through garage while moms asleep or she won't take me to my driving test in few weeks.

I did a little research after I found mine and they seem to have been made in the early 30s.

Thanks Don!

Thanks for posting your collection. Nice to see some younger guys participating. Without a new generation of vintage tool collectors, who is going to buy all the stuff us old guys have collected when we are gone?

That's how I get em. Y'all old guys sell me stuff like 15 Nicholson files and a plomb wrench and handful of other wrenches and blacksmith made pipe cutter along with a 90 degree drill adapter for $10. My ten year old brother gets even better deals on stuff though. Oh by the way I don't know how much I consider myself a collector because they're my favorite to use

Nice 5 band 3/4 drive. See if you can get a pic of the box and tools. I may have a few to post up later once I get home

I bet if you take the ratchet apart and look at the back of the cover plates one will be marked! While it is apart clean it and lube it with some superlube! I use one of those all the time and they are pretty low profile and feel really nice:beer:

I did a while ago with a slight amount of real thin grease. I use it all the time never had a problem besides replacing the rusty screw that held the flip direction thing on. Who knows when the actual part was lost

Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

Teenager: nice handle and nice to see you are not only saving these old tools, but also using them. did you make the fix on the ratchet's selector or was that a prior owner's fix?

i guess we don't have an age limit so if your little brother isn't a member he probably should be.

welcome to the group and keep on posting your finds and learning what you can. i'm sure you already have things to teach us and you are way ahead of most of the kids your age so keep up the good work. there are quite a few teenagers here on the forum that have been around for years so hope you find few to become friends with.

ALL: i'm still finding Plvmb in boxes and bags and i'm going to post up a few pictures when i get them all into a drawer. BTW my one inch ratchet won't fit in my 2 inch deep blueprint metal old file drawers. that dang thing is HUGE.

That was a fix likely done by my grandfather. He ain't around anymore and dad built stuff with him but doesn't collect stuff so never asked. Also found these forgot about them.6bf02e3a87751de9ff345ac53f70215f.jpg

Great collection, Teenager, and I'm glad to hear you use them.

The ratchet with the broken selector looks like the standard Plomb/Proto parts used for decades. I recently called Proto and requested replacement guts for my 1950s Plomb "pebble" ratchet #5449. No questions asked and no cost to me. The only difference is that the new cover plate says "Proto".

Yours is a little older than mine, but I'm willing to bet they are the same internally. I would give it a try.

Brian

One of the tool vending regulars at the flea market threw this 227 duckbill in with some other things I bought. The hinge is wasted, too bad, I love the wide grips on these.

I'm sure you know this, but might be some help to others......If the "hinge" is just loose, you might try hitting the stud in the middle with a set punch to tighten it up. HTHs

Great to see everyone's cool Plomb tools.
I plan to contact Proto and see if I can get a replacement selector arm also. Just pick this up over the weekend.

Thanks for sharing info!

My first 4" Plomb 704 adjustable.
I have a ton of Plomb tools, but this is the first time I've seen the "Plombaloy" marking.

One of these things is not like the others, Im not sure quite what it is...almost a drawbar wrench?

Someone took the wrench, cut off one end and had it chromed. Then they cut the handle off an Enco dead blow hammer and drove the cut end of the wrench into the void in the hammer head.

It would be a handy tool around a milling machine, but a shame they butchered a nice wrench.
