Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

Going through the wrenches I found this double box offset wrench with a w after the size and the the size doesn't correspond with the opening in the wrench and no 4 digit part mark any ideas
That dbe looks British (whitworth). That would be an amazing find.

Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

Oh yeah and I also found this earlier.... A bit steep, but for what it is I think it's the oldest one I've seen yet http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Hea...5f5bc3a&pid=100009&rk=1&rkt=1&sd=401172123120

I tend to have a nasty habit of stumbling across countless mis-marked ads like this, so I'll start posting them here, because a lot of them go unsold and most are obscenely cheap (unlike this one)

Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

So my tool guy has this thing I was going to buy from him. I've come to realize that I don't need it and it's just too much to spend on a "just because it's cool" item, so I had to tell him I wasn't going to buy it. He said he's not planning on advertising it, so I figured I'd see if anyone here is interested since you guys would actually appreciate such a thing. I think he just wants it to go to someone who will give it a good home and not resell it.

The item I speak of is a 9989 plomb box that's damn near mint with the paint & decals in tact that is absolutely packed full of only plomb tools. There's 3 or 4 wood handled screwdrivers, a pebble era 3/4 drive breaker with 10 or so sockets, a hoard of DOE & combo wrenches from 5/16 to 1-1/8, 1 or 2 half moons, a los angeles push through 1/2 drive ratchet (with the plug), and way too many sockets spanning 1/4 to 1/2 drive (I think I counted 65+). There's more that I'm not remembering I'm sure. He said he'd do $550 for all of it and he wasn't about to budge on the price, but I think for what all is there it's a damn good deal (yes there is that much in that box). The attached picture is not it, but its the exact same condition with the decal & such. PM me if you're interested.

Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

figured I'd better give you guys a heads up on this one:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/172328041156?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

looks pretty good to me, but I don't know anything about Plomb. now up to $15.50 with 3 bids. just listed this morning.

Thanks for the heads up. I know about Plomb and would love to have that set. I don't have the ignition wrenches and the old sockets and ratchet look real good. Its @ 83.29 as of now. It aint gonna be cheap.
Neal.

I've see the Plomb box and tools you speak of. I'm happy to hear you got a price out of him. He is fair guy and his prices are reasonable, but he wouldn't quote me a price but rather was fishing for an offer. $550 is decent considering all that is in that box ...

Neal - that little Plomb set is up to $89.00 right now. Looked like a heck of a deal at $15.00 when I posted that just above. I had no idea it would go up that fast with a week still left on it.

Here're a couple of pics of four.cycle's eBay Plomb post. I'm curious as to the ultimate outcome in five days. Thanks for posting this auction in this thread.

Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

I need an odd size combination wrench to fill out a blank spot on an old proto toolboard. 11/32nds! Has anyone seen one? Or is it like the 1238 Plomb?

Thanks to everyone!

DC: i'm not sure i can help your problem of filling up that board, but even if you've posted it before i'd say it's always good to post a picture of a mostly filled up board when asking questions like this if you have one and the time.

please post pictures so i don't have to go back 50 pages. also the 32nd's are sometimes the toughies to find. anybody know if you own complete set of wrenches and sockets that includes 32nd sizing would that eliminate the need for metric?

I'm confused.......if the board has a spot for it It can't be a unicorn. I'm betting very early Proto though. Check the '49 catalog.

11/32 is a standard size for #8 machine screw nuts. It rarely is included in sets, but is encountered in electrical work (including older automotive) regularly.

And now 95.00 even, geez. Those ignition wrenches look like a very complete set. Don't see those screwdriver bits in 1/4" very often either. Haven't decided how much I'm willing to go yet.

It appears that the date codes match too which is rare.

Plomb War Finish 1/4 Drive set on eBay. It's a little too rich for my blood with a B-I-N price of $75, but I'm certain it must be worth the price.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-WAR...438635?hash=item2a6fb01aeb:g:eHwAAOSwFe5XxnY~

Brian

As I expected, this set sold for the full price of $75 - on the same day I posted these pictures.

I've only ever found a single "War Finish" (not WF) wrench out in the wild, and can't imagine how rare a full set of War Finish tools of any size must be.

I'm curious if someone here pulled the trigger. If so, post some pix!

I'm brand new to this forum and this is my first post. I have many vintage tools from my grandfather who was a grade A Tool and Die maker for IBM. This is my latest find from an auction last night. I'll get some pictures posted it's a large set I'm not sure what size of taps and dies from the Wells Brothers Company in Greenfield Mass.
