Drives I am just getting started sorting through that box of Plomb but for sure have a lot of duplicates. Always up for some tool trades...were not all that far away really. Ed.

Well, since they started out making plumbing fixtures and tools that makes sense that they would make sprinklers. I also noticed your location and am pretty sure that outside of southern c.a. there are not many plvmb sprinklers still around. Super rare piece that any body would be glad to have in their collection

I am not sure what to make of this 3/4" drive Proto ratchet. It is a female 5649 reversible ratchet but Hex rather than square drive. Came with a matching 5663 S adapter / extension. I've spent an hour or so e-searching but haven't found this type anvil adapter. Anyone have one of these? Ed.

 I was watching that on Ebay last year but unless you weren't the buyer, there is another out there. Different for sure.

Williams made large size hex drive ratchets but I think those would have been during the Plomb days. I wonder why that would have been made so late. Maybe a special production to be compatible with other hex tools? Or to design the extension length for a particular job?

Yes, what Twertsy said. This I have to see.

They did make that weed puller, so why not a sprinkler? :dunno:

Thanks for the info 3bay. There must be another because this one has never been on e-bay. Probably purpose built for some perceived need. Hard to see where it would have an advantage over a standard ratchet though. Ed.

I just picked up this amber handle close quarter driver. These early plastic handle drivers don't seem to survive that well.

Yeah, that finish is kinda weird. You better let me help you and send it to me to put with my other "weird finish" plvmb tools.

That finish is pretty typical of the plvmb tools from that time period, wrinkle finish paint on the box and and as machined finish on the tools and sockets. Your's looks pretty nice and would probably just need a light clean up and should be as good as new! I would just degrease the box and tools and then just clean the surface rust off the ratchet/sockets and just put a very slight coating of oil on them! I wish I could find a set that complete in the wild:rocker:

All my stuff is rusty. Lol. Is this what they are supposed to look like? The ratchet has a rough finish. Feels rough to the touch. The rest is about what I'd expect to be normal.

Looks like you only need about 6 or 7 6point sockets and possibly a short extension.

The head of the ratchet has indentation marks in it like maybe at one time it was really rusty and was cleaned up?? All the other tools look factory to me. Still a good set! I wish I had it:rocker:

Quietly snaked this from eBay's clutches for 12 bucks a lil more than I would like to pay but I figured it was worth it

That's rad Todd

Drive they sent it usps from the east coast. I have one set of combo wrenches from 5/16 to 1-1/4 the others are a work in progress I'll post some pictures of what I have found since last February and I would say 90 percent came from a small swapmeet in east sandiego

It’s apparently such a unicorn that the March 1944 Class 41 Hand Tools section of the US Navy Aviation Supply Office catalog...

ASO%20Page%201_zpssxko90x9.jpg

...did not even list it! :)

20161022_1846201_zpsugdkdk3o.jpg

I suspect this might indicate that the production of this particular size did not start until later in 1944. It’s also possible the catalog was just incomplete.

Not that there’s any doubt Plomb was a supplier (lots of Plomb NAF tools among collectors), but the US Navy ASO catalog Class 41 actually shows many Plomb tools in its figures, and in some cases, lists Plomb part numbers in correspondence to the NAF stock numbers.

My toolmobile almost complete done in flat naval blue/ white. Considering adding the stripes as they came from plomb and in the process of re-keying the lock.

Very nice resto! The only thing I might think about changing is the torx screws. See if maybe you can find a flat tip or a phillips screw to replace them as the flat tips are the correct application for that not the much newer torx. Although if you have a top box you are putting on it, you might not bother??Really nice job and I am super envious of your tool mobile. I have yet to ever see one in the wild, closest I have is a pressteel that I made a wood top like yours..
