Smoke Pretty much go searching for Plomb on craigslist Seen an add with 3 random pictures nothing fancy called the lady went there she said the guy that lived there had died in June and she's been cleaning this house out ever since and said he was a hoarder and had an a lot of plumb tools when I went in the tool room it was like I was stoned on Plomb there was so many I had no idea where to start or what to offer so I took a deep breath started estimating how many were there I figured there were at least 500 so I offered $500.00 I figured if I got them for $1.00 each I couldn't go wrong . She said yes went back the next day and cleaned her out she said there was probably more and she would call me if so since then I've been sorting tools

Any one got any info on the wrench never seen a part number of that configuration

Sounds good! Maybe I will get lucky like you one day and score a big plvmb load. I check craigslist almost every day but never see much beyond a few wrenches or a single picture. :lol_hitti I once had this happen on a much larger scale. I found an ad on craigslist for a few pebble wrenches, emailed the guy and he said they where his dads. I asked if he had any more plvmb and he ended up giving me a free ratchet, universal joint and a few extra wrenches. I tried to pay him more than what he was asking in the ad but he said no. All told I think maybe I got 10 items total... No where near 500 :)

The 41820 wrench was probably made on contract for a maintainance tool set during WWII. Plomb targeted the aviation industry starting pretty early (perhaps even before 1930) among other industries. Sometimes they would make a special tool, sometimes modify an existing design, and often supply a regular tool with special markings for the customer.

Nice haul of War Finish sockets. Nice haul, period!!!!!

Moor: i'm so accustomed to you finding and posting up Plvmb tools that i forgot to look to see what you found last week. OMG you might have more Plvmb than all of us combined now. WELL DONE SIR!!

nice that you split it with a friend and surprised others at the sale didn't grab a box or two while you were trying to get to the cashier. of course Plvmb tools in LA is probably like old Craftsman tools in some parts of the country.

keep grabbing them when you can cause like has been said they don't grow on trees anymore or at all in some parts of the US.

This is the only reason I can think of that would make me want to live in Southern California. If not for Plomb, would LA even exist?

Every morning?

it's one of the perks of being retired. always having been a workaholic, old habits die hard. if i can suit up, i show up and love every minute of it. i go most every morning. my swap meet is closed on a few of the major holidays.

Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

So I have been working on some plvmb tool boards for my garage. I would love to have originals but they are hard to find and I would be worried about ruining them since they would be super close to where I actually work on cars. I decided to create some of my own with stickers I had made of the old logos. I will be making a different green tool board plvmb sticker as well as p&c but for now I wanted to show my progress. The boards are 78" tall and are about 22" wide. I have an old garage with exposed beams so I decided to create a nice display for my collection while still having them close and handy. I do use my plvmb tools as it is a working collection, they are not just for show:beer: I used 3/4 thick plywood and sealed the wood before drilling holes in it to put screws into. I did put vacuum hose around the screws so that the screws will not scratch the tools and hopefully they stay put! I will be creating some proto los angles boards and p&c boards but they will be smaller than the plvmb ones. I used this plvmb advertising board as a inspiration. Hope you guys enjoy... I will be selling the extra stickers I don't need as I had to buy lots of 10 in order to get the stickers made...

Inspiration;)

Overall view- for size reference, the pipe wrench having up is a 24" and the large ratchet with the blue tape is a 3/4 drive that needs new guts...

Close up of the proto sticker. I had them made in 6" widths and 4" widths as well. Have not made the proto boards yet but am sure I will not use all 10 of them

Close up of the plvmb hammer strike logo

As you guys can see I still have a long way to go towards the collection but I have a pretty good start and I enjoy seeing and using them each time I am in the garage!

Must be nice to have a daily flea market around!

Smoke, that looks fantastic! You just might have inspired me to finish my design for those to cut on my CNC. Excellent job!

That is a perk. Is it the same vendors every day or do they 'rotate'?

Smoke: pretty impressive. i couldn't give up that much wall space, but it looks great and nice to know you use them too.

some vendors sell once or twice a week from a reserve space while others may sell 3-7 days a week. very few of the sellers i know are there more than 2 or 3 days a week. vendors that sell more than once a week usually have different reserve spaces they sell from on different days of the week. there are many occasional sellers and those that show up once and are never seen again. it's a very large swap meet and there are always some newcomer sellers that are there to try their hand on any given day. of course, there are specific days of the week that are regularly much busier than other days.

Thanks for all the nice comments on my tool boards! I enjoyed laying them out and made sure to include room for the collection to grow :) I will also be making a few for my proto los angles and my p&c collection although they will not be as big :) When I get them made I will post more pictures of the final results! I still have lots to obtain before I reach the level of some on here but I am getting closer

Nice idea with the vacuum hose. I was gonna make a board for my ratchets but was worried about making the hooks. Maybe I will look into it again.

Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

Some nice pieces, Todd. By your usual haul this one seems a little sparse. Did you only pick up pieces you needed or were the prices too high?
Super nice grab on the line wrenches. Pebbled?

The line wrenches are pebble Mike. Prices were ok. See the garage sale thread for the full haul.
