A small batch of stuff from a large batch of stuff I purchased. I needed two of the sockets for my set and am happy to have found an uncommon 1 3/16" socket. The 3/8" to 1/4" adapter appears early.

I had no idea it existed until it fell into my lap. There is some irony in that I have been diligently looking for a 1 3/16" from S-K to finish my set. Didn't know I needed this Plomb!

Brian

Cant beat that!! Ill be looking from now on. Big flea market Mar 11/12 again I'm gonna go rumage through the thousands of sockets they have!

They're out there. That 1-3/16 will probably pop up when you least expect it. When it rains it pours. :) Ed.

Damn only once a month. Our fleas are once a year but we have a lot of auctions which is a huge gamble but can walk out for stuff cheap.

Yea, there's a smaller Flea market here in town Every sat and Sunday. I do find good stuff there for a fix, but the Big one is second weekend of every month. Takes most of the day to walk it and pick through everything. Glad its getting nice and the Estate sales are picking back up as well! They can be a gold mine!

Has anyone ever decided to put their entire collection up to see what it would bring? some of these single items go crazy high some times.. makes me wonder whats a good collection really worth.

Ok, now you are talking crazy :) No way I would be parting with my collection... Although I don't have a 1 3/16th socket even though everyone else seems to have one... Well gives me something to keep looking for. I had begun to wonder if anybody else had one but now I have my answer! Nice pick ups guys  I will be going to the Portland International Raceway swap meet in april and there always seems to be quite a few good pieces there !

haha yea I dont think I could give it up unless I got enough to replace it! But I do wonder when I see a PLOMB body hammer with a broken handle go for $425... I am on a mission for a 1 3/16 too now!

So there I was all sad because I was thinking I did not have any 1 3/16ths sockets to call my own... but then something inside said to to a check my garage tool boards  I walked out to the garage and low and behold... I did have a P&C 1 3/16ths which is probably even more rare than a plvmb

sweeet! I checked and I do not have one period. But I DO have a P&C metal socket set box I picked up 2 weeks ago at the flea market. It might make me start grabbing some P&C to fill it up!

Well I am not really that attached to it! If someone wanted to trade for a plvmb or proto l.a. I would be up for the trade. I thought it was an odd size at the time but thought nothing of it until I saw others with the same size  Around here, when I go to swap meets and junk sales I am constantly tripping over P&C  although I have never seen another of that size.

Found a couple Plomb wrenches at Goodwill this morning.

Plomb WF-82 DBE wrench
Proto Los Angeles 3426 tappet wrench.

It's not every day you see Plomb at Goodwill!

Paid $3 each

That's a rockin' Goodwill man!

Sometimes ... It's a small town store with not a lot of traffic.

I have found a few P&C items there over the past few years. I once found a 3/8" drive RHFT Craftsman ratchet for $2 there too. It's rare to find that many hand tools all at once, though.

got some new Plombs this week end! Went to a huge swap meet and dug round all day to get one thing at a time here and there. Heres what I came up with.

5467 1/2 breaker bar, earlier version I think ?
WF18 3/8 10" extension
6734 Tappet valve adjuster 1935 date on it
1222 11/16 pebble combo
5345 1/2 drv 3/4 deep socket
52720 3/8 swivel
WF20 3/8 breaker
1214 7/16 combo
5463 1/2 drv 10" extension

1134 11/16 x 5/8 Proto LA pebble box inserts

1232 1" dual marker Proto MFG Plomb
47 5/16 x 5/32 punch Dual marked Proto MFG Plomb

spent around $20 for all of this, mixed in with some other stuff non Plomb. pretty good week end!

First weekend in April is only 5 weeks away!

Do you limit yourself to PIR or do you hit the expo center too? I haven't been since I moved to Independence a few years ago. The irony is that I pass the expo center to and from work!

Well I have not placed a limit on myself but I have never been because I am usually out of money/energy by the time I am done at PIR but maybe this year I will hit both! I drove by it this weekend and really am excited for that weekend to be here!

I worked for PIR and NHRA for more than a decade as a tech inspector & race official. One of the perks was the PIR staff parking permit that got me into any and every event along with having a reserved parking spot next to the control tower. Two of my racing buddies and I also rent the same spot at the expo in building B every year. We started back in the mid 90s for the purpose of having a place to stage all the junk we planned on buying. That changed to actually using the spot to sell all the junk we accumulated over the years. They are still there every year and I have a vendor pass any time I want one even though I haven't gone in four years.

I need to correct myself. Traditionally, the swap meet was always held the first weekend in April. This year it's on the second weekend in April. Not sure when that change took place ...

Found these Plomb Los Angeles wrenches the other day. They look to be hand forged contract wrenches with a "N" marking to the left of Plomb. These are blacksmith made and show hand filing marks.

One is marked: N 24 1 1/2 plomb Los Angeles

The other is: N 28 1 3/4 Plomb Los Angeles

I have never seen any similar Plomb wrenches and searches do not come up with any photos.

Guess these are pretty hard to find!

But it gets better found a 3rd wrench marked PLOMB TOOL CO. L.A. CAL with no date code I will get a picture of that one up as well

So this is the PLOMB TOOL CO. L. A. CAL wrench, sorry for the picture quality but it was the best i could do with the camera that i had.

Anyway it is marked as above with 9/16 at the box end.

As you may notice either the Plomb marking or the 9/16 marking is up side down...

I believe this to be a super early Plomb wrench and may even be a early prototype. It is hand forged and hand filed.

Anyone ever see one like this?

Thanks,
Mark

I have never seen any real early plvmb wrenches in person but I think you have a pretty early one based on the california reference on it. I don't think it is a prototype, probably just an early made wrench before they started to manufacture with machines...I am not an expert but there are those here who could help us! Calling twertsy, snap mom or carla :bounce:

Brian this year is the first year where they moved it to the 2nd week in april. If i remember correctly, every year before this was at the beginning of the month! At least this gives us north westerners one more week towards summer which hopefully means a chance of less rain although that is kind of an oxymoron here in oregon :)

Discovered that the two wrenches in my first post can be found on page 8 of the PLOMB No 6 catalog from 1922.

Turns out they are water pump wrenches W24 and W28
