Found at the market today. The vendor didn’t really want to let it go, he wanted to display it somewhere. Well, after buying a bunch of things here it is.

It looks fused together. Remember the two long Protos I posted? This is beyond that.

Little known fact, that ratchet is actually a movie prop from 2001: A Space Odyssey. The beginning scene with the monkeys featured that ratchet, but the bone was edited in later for continuity. :lol_hitti

"I'm sorry, Dave, I'm afraid I can't ratchet that."

I thought I'd try to spark some additional help in my search to complete my Plomb WF set by offering up some hard to find trade bait. I have a link below in my signature to the "Wanted" section where I have my list of remaining WF items I need as well as a link to some general Plomb socket set items I need to complete sets. As trade, I am offering up duplicate WF-8-S and WF-38-T ratchets for comparable value items I need. Please PM me if you are willing to trade. Thanks.

Is Proto stuff ok here too? I'm working on some Plomb/Proto collections right now. Currently I have 3 Proto wood handled screwdrivers and am looking for more. In addition to these three I have a Plomb 100 key ring screwdriver not pictured.

Here are the few Plomb Pebble combos I have. I want to put a set together and build a display for them similar to my Williams and other wrench displays. If anyone can help with the collection please let me know.

I'm pretty sure I have a spare 5/8" combo kicking around. Happy to work out a trade. I'll double check when I'm home from work.

EDIT: Yep, spare 5/8" 1220 combo wrench in good user condition. Happy to trade it for something.

Nice find today at a local surplus material store. WF 84 13/16 x 7/8 and on the reverse side it's stamped AFT Engine. Looks better cleaned up.

I've started collecting what I intend to become a copy of a Plvmb Veteran's Set, but have added the box to keep the set in. Pictures of my current status are below - still have a long way to go. Need to get some more combos and DBEs, plus screwdrivers and the smaller wrenches. At least my 1/4" set is almost complete :)

I started with an interest in the pebble wrenches, which is how I found this thread. Then, on page 2, I found the Plomb vet sets, and was hooked right away.

It looks like you’ve got a great start on the set and I really like that toolbox. This is the set that I’d like to do next. I’ve collected quite a few of the pieces. I’ll need to find the 5495 box, though.

Here is a shot of the back of the wrench
Interesting. If it wasn't a Wright Field (US Army Air Corps) series wrench, I might've guessed that "AFT ENG" was a location marking for the tool, i.e, it belongs in the Aft Engine Room, on a US Navy ship. Maybe one of the flyboys on here (thinking of Provincial) would know better, but I don't think the US Army Air Forces (or the US Navy for that matter) had an aircraft with an aft engine during WWII, or one might conclude that it was a functional marking, i.e., for use on the aft engine. Maybe a drone? It might be something simpler, like the name of a company Aft-something-or-other Engineering, and placed there after the war. First seen for me.

Looks like a PO or "use/storage location" mark to me also.

I don't recall any WWII USAAF aircraft with tandem engines. I can believe the wrench in question could have been used by the Navy. I have a Plomb 1140 13/16 x 7/8 DBE wrench "made in USA" with a date code of 1c. It is hand-stamped "USN - lD" with the "l" being a straight vertical bar with no crossbars on the ends.

The USAAF did operate all sorts of ground equipment, one of which could have had an "aft" engine. :dunno:

Sorry, have not looked. I suspect it is a pressteel box. Same as toolmobile, sold directly by pressteel. Had remnant of small sticker on front.

Plomb toolbox - South SF Bay/Silicon Valley

Looks great; I suspect it's a repaint. $200.

No affiliation yada yada... My usual and customary finder's fee is 12.5%, or two mint condition pebble combos.
