Thanks. I think I am going to run into the same issue as Stormking waiting years to fill in the last little bit.
That fear prevents me from doing something similar. My obsessive tendencies would have none of it!

Have a batch of random pebble wrenches arriving from the 'bay today. Should fill in some blanks in my combo set with a few spares. I'll post up here after I've sorted through.

Wow! Those look great. Just a little ways to go. Here is a wartime drag link bit and an offset screwdriver from 1933.
-Don

Don, is that DLB a 5446? I'm looking for a 5444 (3/4" bit). That screwdriver had me going, briefly, as I'm looking for a 36-1/4.

The thrill of the hunt, I suppose, kinda like the day I found a Williams 4019 at the flea for a couple bucks....but what I want is a 4019B (or 7029B). Both are DBEs in 11/16" x 3/4"....

OK, got my lot of pebble combos (first pic) and I was able to upgrade / fill blanks in my combo set (second pic). Tape indicates the examples from today's lot that I need to clean up. At some point I hope to find a 1210 to fill the lowermost slot.

Also in the second pic are some spares (2x 1220, 1x 1222). If anybody is interested in 'em, I'm happy to send 'em your way for my cost. Just PM me.

1210 can be a toughy but the 1212 is one of the worst. Nice set.

That I was my experience as well. A nice 1212 was the toughest to locate.
I got lucky then! The 1212 came in a lot I purchased on GJ a while ago.

Should've bought a lotto ticket that day... ;-)

Here are a couple from the flea today. One pair no. 235 ignition pliers and one I am really excited about. A DOE dual marked Plomb/Proto pebble insert wrench. First dual marked I have found. In really nice shape too. I have not cleaned them yet.

Nice finds guys. Been slow up here this year with estates and auctions. I resorted to sorting a little bit today building up the Plomb corner of the garage.
3/4 drive tools on the top row. Followed by 3/4" 5 bands sockets. Followed by 3/4 low band sockets. Then 1/2 drive tools.IMG_20180805_184656696_HDR.jpg

Great finds! Gotta love finding a nice transitional tool!

I finally got a chance to replace my dark finish 1945 flex handle in my postwar 3/8” drive set.

Is it just me or do the units like the one on top just look lower quality, and the lower units(dark) look much better made and bold. I like the versions that resemble the lower one much more, don't need flaky chrome either.

Aesthetically I preferred the dark finish ‘45 flex handle as well but it was incorrect in a postwar set. It seems as if the finishes were not as well done after the war as prewar. My 1939 set is beautifully finished and plated. Perhaps it took a while after the war to get back to decent plating since there were metal restrictions during the war.

The bottom one is an earlier production. They send to have more retangular handles that are thinner. The newer productions are more round and thicker. The older ones seem to have more contrast in the stampings with in the pebble. Good eye.

You must have cleaned those up because WOW those things really look great. I'd be very proud to have a set like that. I don't think even I could bring myself to use them.

The 5467 was one of the nicest chrome Plomb's I had found and one of the earlier tools I found at a local swap meet when I first started going. So I grabbed it and it has really not been used(tsk tsk).

The 5468 was grabbed last year for something like 8-10 bucks, but the 1/2" swivel plug is REALLY loose; allows for probably 30-40º of handle movement before turning the socket.....very bad. I really beat myself up about buying it, I wonder if I can fix it...

I LOVE the 5468, really like its quality more, but it just can't be used. :(

It could probably be redone with donor parts off a modern breaker, but that would take parts, lots of work, and modifying the Plomb. Might be better off just hanging on the wall - except this one doesn't have a hook hole for some reason.

Don, that is outta this world! Those things must have never been used, not once. Really interesting, because when those were new, they weren't exactly a cheap set of tools.

The sad/funny thing is due to the truthfulness of your statement, more than likely that 5468's fate will be being broken in half one day when I need a stuck bolt broken, and need a sacrificial breaker bar to attempt the job.

The Challenger set was slightly less expensive than the regular set since it couldn’t be made up from open stock.
Yesterday I went through my Plomb spares and found enough to make a set up that is only missing a few pieces. I de-rusted and painted a relatively inexpensive eBay Plomb box and am happy with the results.

I found a great slide hammer today and think I got a good deal on it for $15. What you see is what I got. I've needed something like this several times, nice to have a good tool--most that I saw online did not have a chrome screw.

Has anybody ever heard of the Ruby Line? There was one photo on google, no info. Looked nice so I got it too.

I’m a rookie when it comes to Plomb but I bought a DBE today and it is stamped Plomb on one end and Proto on the other end. Is this common? We’re/are they affiliated? I’ll post pics of it shortly. Thanks everyone.

During the transition from the plomb name to proto some tools were stamped with both names. Not too uncommon to come across.

Since they were only made one year, they aren’t super common either. Here are a couple of mine.

Somewhere in my piles of stuff I have a Ruby Line driver. Needs a regrind but I will see if I can dig it out. But in the meantime...
Thank you very much for posting that. Sounds like not-so-common knowledge. Also appears to be 1960's style fonts, etc.

Since I have several wartime 3/8” drive tools left over from putting together my postwar set, I have this box coming from an eBay seller. I plan to use my extra dark finish flex handle posted above along with this dark finish ratchet given to me some years back by an old friend. I should end up with one of these sets offered in 1945, as far as I can tell.
