I can’t help it if they are drawn to me like moths to a flame [emoji23] would you say no to a p&c tool mobile?

Sent from my iPhone using The Garage Journal mobile app

I would prefer a Plomb toolbox to a P&C because all of the P&C that I find magically seems to end up at username’s house. Here is a recent Plomb acquisition that got away from you conspirators.

Ignore this pic...........it'll hurt my reputation as a crazy demented hoarder/ collector of 700+ ratchets...........:willy_nil

(Pic is 6 years old, taken in 2012. 1/2" drive sets along the bottom shelf. 1/4", 3/8", 3/4", and 1" drive sets not pictured.)

:) From my collection. I stopped collecting, more or less 6 years ago.

I did find an NOS 3065 open end, but only a plain version of the 3061 open end.......still need the pebble version of the 3061.

Impressive I am on the ratchet and Plomb front as well. Still looking for 4 DBEs and a few more DOEs. If you want to do some swapping hit me up with a PM. I have all my ratchets on a Google sheets doc.

What are you looking for? I'll keep my eyes open at the swap.
1155 1160 1161 1162 and 1164 for DBE pebbles. I may have a 1160 but it is starting to fall through.
3032 3034 3037 3040 3055 3060 3061 3062 3070 for DOEs in pebble.
I am not super picky on condition and will pay or trade for them.
Thank you.

Living in the midwest, I don't think I'll ever put together a complete set of the pebble goodness... So, if you're interested, I'd offer this #3040 out for trade.

Could use some pieces to help fill up a wartime midget 1/4" drive Plomb set. Do you have a spare nut spinner with Plomb marked on the handle, or plain steel finished 6" long midget extension?

I've wanted this 3/4" drive extension for a while and made due with a good Proto, now I got one!
Other stuff is not needed but cheap.

I finally found a plomb keychain driver at a garage sale today. I've been wanting one for a while, but just couldn't justify the crazy eBay prices. Best part was it was only a buck with the doe wrench!
I kind of like that it has the name on the back.

Nice pick. Have yet to see one in the wild. I have a P&C and Proto LA but no Plomb.
Hit some Plomb paydirt today but will post some pictures when I get home.

Here is my finds for the week.
Plomb 3/4 pieces included ratchet with plug and a LA bar. Bought this at a pawn shop and the gal working said it belonged to her great grandfather. An 1160 DBE (only 4 left to finish the set). A PWA bar from the bay. Also got a 1/2 swivel socket from the bay as well not pictured.IMG_20180907_185356255.jpegIMG_20180907_185403443.jpegIMG_20180907_185411257.jpegIMG_20180907_185416399.jpeg

Here's my plomb finds from an estate sale today. A 1/2" breaker bar, pebble 1135, 1228 and 1236 combos, some 3/8" deep sockets, offset screwdriver, and a 3/8" firestone extension.

Here's the oddball piece. It's a regular old 1228 on one side, and a P&C 2728 on the other! A new kind of "dual marked" plomb to me.

Now, that's funny. I have missing Proto, and have had to fill in some of it with Plomb. Same with my DBE wrenches.

So I picked this up this weekend, filled with misc. tools
juwpk6.jpg

But what is the timeline place for red boxes? Are they after green, same time as green, before the war, pebble or before pebble? I have never looked into finding the proper time for a red, as I have only found green boxes before.

I believe red is after green. Only reason I have bought a couple of the red sets that had dual marked items so I assumed they are towards the end. But they were not a stamped boxes. This is also missing the LA stamp.

I haven't paid too much attention to toolbox colors prior to 1939. Between 1939 and 1948 the toolbox colors actually went from green to red, back to green, and then back to red again.

Summary (with my dating, which is explained in detail in my 'Pebble Plomb Production Dates' thread):

Catalog 15-A (1936): "Olive green baked enamel"

Catalog 17B (1939): Black and white, but all boxes described as "dark olive green," except the Toolmobile, which is described as "Lustrous metallic blue enamel."

Catalog 18A (8/40 - 10/41): shown and described as "brilliant Chinese Red"

Catalog 19 (42 - 3/43): shown and described as "brilliant Chinese Red", but almost certainly already OD green (this is the catalog with no WPB line-outs, restrictions markings. etc, but a Price List in the back with a War Production Board notice and restricted items missing from list)

Catalog 19A (4/43 - 1/44): all toolboxes shown in red, and described as "brilliant Chinese red", but this is the first catalog with WPB strikeouts and notices in the catalog itself, several reading: "All Toolboxes Finished in GREEN"

Catalog 19R REPRINT (2/44 - 10/46): Ditto

Catalog 19R FOURTH PRINTING (11/46 - 3/48): "brilliant Chinese Red"

Catalog 4820 (4/1948 - ?): "dark red baked enamel finish"

EDIT:

Beemer, my gut on your box is pre-war. 1940-1941. But I suppose it could also be 1947-1948 before Proto branding? Would you call it "brilliant" or "dark" red under the patina? :)

Several years ago I came across a wood handled Plomb screwdriver at a yard sale. I thought it was the coolest tool I’d ever laid hands on. Researching it led me to GJ, and I’ve been hooked on seeking out all things Plomb ever since.

So I thought I’d share what one screwdriver and you all on this site started

Jeebus, you aren't kidding about the eBay prices. But, like after seeing many things on GJ, I had to have one...just won an auction, and might go for more. I need help. LOL.

EDIT: I went for more. Now have four of these (Proto branded) headed my way. I didn't know I needed them until now. ;)
