Just in case my post wasn't clear, ALL the drawers on Plomb Tool Co 9990's - including the bigger drawers, have D-ring pulls in ALL the catalogs in the 1930's up through 1949.

I am interested in knowing if the catalogs were inaccurate, or if those two scallop pulls help date Bill's box to very late 1949 or possibly 1950.

So I am interested in collectors with Plomb 9990's from the late 30's or early to mid 40's to verify if the pulls are ALL D-rings or two D-rings and two scallops.

EDIT: Disregard. It wasn't as difficult to search as I thought it was going to be. The first few 9990's I found on the thread were all configured like Bill's, two D-rings, two scallops. Some have all D-rings, though. So the catalogs were just not accurate. Or not completely representative, better said.

Starting to sort through the contents. Here are a 4510 stud extractor and a 5447 ratchet adapter that I just cleaned.

I wonder if the scallops were more labor intensive so they went to d rings? I agree with your findings as well. When I was researching my top chest I had the exact question and I came to the same conclusion that the catalogs are not always accurate

I saw those 2 items in your pictures yesterday and thought you did well! It is possible that your top chest was from the transitional time period I suppose. Is the paint red or maroon?

Continue cleaning my aquisition from August 30 (takes a while between the job and other duties)
This is a small addition to my slowly growing PLVMB collection:
1/2 drive ratchet 5449 (works like new!) and extension 5461
PROTO tiny keychain screwdriver was found as well.

Figured I'd hop in on the madness. You guys have some killer stuff that kicks the **** out of what I've got, but I also have not been at this long and I mostly keep to getting stuff I will be able to use (most of the time). Always have been a proto guy, so naturally I love the plomb stuff too...

Mine has all d-ring pulls. Mine is from the early 40's based on the red color and logo

Indeed. And I'm glad you posted, because there are actually two styles of the boxes with the D-rings. The late 30's 9990's had two D-ring pulls on each drawer, and those D-rings were the same size as the D-rings on the small drawers. Your later box has just a single larger D-ring pull on each drawer.

I forgot about the O ring D ring style drawer pulls. I am glad he posted that as well! It is a nice box !

Slowly going through the contents of the 9990 box. All the DBEs were posted on the My small but growing DBE wrench collection thread. A small MTF DBE is on the Milwaukee Tool & Forge Co. thread and a Blue Points DOE is on the Vintage Blue Point, Blue Points Chicago and Blue-Point tools thread. In addition, these 4515 stud extractors - one each from Plomb and Proto.

That is correct and would be amazing. It is last Round beam DBE I need! Also looking for the huge 2650 Spud 3-1/8".

so cleaning out a relatives garage where I've been dumping tools for years I came across this old Plomb male socket set ( among other things) I had completely forgot about. Besides the over the top owner's markings the metal is in great condition. The set in the background is obviously not Plomb (Chicago Auto Tool)

Has to be home made. Simple but clever with the metal rods placed just right to hold the detents.

I know, right?! it was under an old school drinking fountain that I had partially disassembled and was going to covert to a bird bath and OF COURSE never got around to it. Even when I saw the box beneath I was like...I'll bet there's a bunch of misc. wrenches I never got around to cleaning in there.

Thanks Roy. Looks to have some mixed Plomb stampings . One socket is cracked the rest are great, no cracks no pitting. The owner's marks are on every piece.

Any pictures? This would truly be bow down worthy, hinge handles aside[emoji23] I am talking the 30’s version with 5 drawers. I know the p&c version from the 30’s looks an awful lot like the sk rollers but I believe that was before p&c was acquired!

This is the one i was talking about...1939 catalog snip... I cant quite read the features on my computer but it almost looks like the drawers just rest on channels and it doesn't have any actual slides ? The top chests from this catalog have the same channels that the drawers rest on. We know that catalogs from this era often left much to be desired in terms of actual depiction of certain physical characteristics but the corners look square and it definitely appears not to be the more modern brilliant Chinese red round corner version.... I have pretty good eye sight and i cant really read the specs on it that are included....my downloaded catalog is not great. Does any one have a real 1939 catalog handy that they could snap a photo ?? I am thinking this is probably gray ?

Hi. yeah, that looks like it. Square corners, 2 drawers on top then an an open compartment with the drop down door and the another drawer below that. I know without a picture this is worthless...one of you commented a while ago about a red top chest I had in the backgorund of one of my pics...the toolmobile might have been partially in that shot .

Not truly plomb news but these were close enough I thought I would share

I picked up these 2 Proto la catalogs off eBay for less than $11 shipped [emoji23][emoji41] I put in a last minute bid online and thought for sure I would be out bid but no... shipping cost double the cost of the items . 1951 and 1953 and the 1951 even has the price sheet insert! I was pretty excited about it. I only have a 1962 Proto catalog but it is the bigger size. Maybe these where a jobber size for mechanics, not for counter men?
