Ha! Good. Cause you ain’t getting those!:bounce:

Those are super clean! Plus they are newer than my box than I am putting together![emoji23]

Anyone have any of the sockets for this set? My box is a round o so I would be interested if someone has the correct sockets for my box? Pictured in the 1932 catalog

My run of plomb luck continued today. I spotted on my way out of the flea market and brought it home. A 9980 utility chest full of goodies. The chest is in great shape. Good labels, paint, and no rust. Inside was split between plomb and long c craftsman. Almost a full 1/2” drive set, a full set of 3/8” sockets, a 3/4-1/2” adapter, a 12” adjustable, even a cross bar. All in great shape with perfect shiny chrome. I’m super excited... this is the first top chest I’ve had a chance to buy in person since I started collecting. I’ll post some more pictures once I shine it up and decide how to fill it.
Impressive. All seem to be period matched with the chest as well. It might be an original late 40s tool kit!
Got all 6 boards cut and 4 of them fully painted, varnished and stickers on. Now to lay them out!

Thanks! They have a slight blue tint to them but are still greenish in color . I don’t have any actual real plomb tool boards to compare the sticker to so I think I am pretty close?

Let me grab a close up of mine. I have to variants dual marked and the streamline.

I spent an hour reorganizing my corner of plomb to fit my new box. My “garage” is just a tiny shed so I have to pack it in.

Even if your area isn’t super big you sure have it laid out well! Very nice collection that it takes a lot of effort to put together. That top chest is really nice!

So I posted a picture a little while ago of that 5200 box but I think I want to try to put together a set that includes the ratchet and a few things. I am interested in putting together this Ford cub set 5200G if this is correct for this box? Also is the correct style of sockets the Los Angeles style? I paid $3 for the box at a swap meet 2 years ago. Someone removed the speed handle partition so I will have to fabricate a new one when I fix this box up.

Better that than the other way round! I had a dickens of a time finding the "right" Plomb speeder to fit my partition. I posted evidence of speeders with at least three different bends to the swing when I was completing my set. Only one of them fit in my box. And it wouldn't surprise me if that was the reason the partition is missing.

Your findings caused me to compare my speeders. You are right! They are all different... this is going to cause me to buying every one I find [emoji15][emoji849][emoji23]

Plomb was very casual about using the round O boxes for years after the tools were marked PL∇MB. On boxes with labels on the interior those paper label are also often marked PL∇MB.

Funny you should post a picture of your beautiful challenger set. That set actually came up in my discussion today with a forum member. Are your tools marked with the later style plvmb with the arrows? It appears they are.

That sign is amazing! That would be super cool to make a scaled down version. Of course if I had a big shop and the money, I would want the real deal! I have thought about making 2’ wide signs in the past with either this logo or the hammer strike logo

Yes. They are all dated 1939.

Not only are the 3/8” drive speeders different, I recently learned that the 1/4” drive ones are as well. I had to pick up another one that would fit in the box.

The chrome on this set is amazing and looks new. Same with the box. I believe this may be my most favorite set anyone has ever posted just because it is so new looking. Where did you find it?

Sent from my iPhone using The Garage Journal mobile app

We found it along with a S-K set in similar condition at an estate sale in January 2018. I grabbed the Plomb and the sander, my wife grabbed the S-K set. I think it was in Danville, CA. Apparently the previous owner had nice tools but never used them.

So for all intents and purposes you found it in the wild! I love that it was just waiting for you to find it.

This looks great. Never mind the top box, I love the top drawer organization of Pressteel box!

A very humble addition to the wall. A 3047 LA. I wasn't even sure if this was an LA size as I had never seen one and the combination of sizes I think was made for a Ford purpose wrench. Only a couple gaps left to fill!IMG_20201026_174951690.jpgIMG_20201026_175058713.jpg

I treated myself to a little Plomb goodness, as I am slowly building up a postwar collection and such nice painted logos are hard to find. And I am a sucker for personalized stuff.

It says Zimmerman upsidedown.

24 POS, not sure what that stands for, but it is not a set listed as far as I know.

Because I like this box so much, I filled it with post-war shiny goodness. I still need to find a 12" chrome extension in good shape, as the only one I have is pretty beat up and not worthy of this set.

I now have four of these plomb boxes, and one P&C box of the same shape and size. I will have to take a group pic.

I wish that my box had come with nice stenciling like that or at least a paper label.

Don I am pretty sure that is a pre-war box (stamped logo and Chinese red paint) and it wouldn't have either of those. I have one, but it is very beaten up and am looking for a better one.

UNAIU It looks like an O, but you are probably right. It does make more sense.

Very nice box Bmwrd0! I would have wanted that one too. I bet the outside would clean up with some dish soap and hot water. I see what you did in that photo with that one item [emoji23]

FYI- my grandma’s maiden name was Zimmerman and they live by you so thanks for finding my great grandfathers tool box. I will be along to collect it soon [emoji23]

You may be right although I still am of the opinion that it’s likely postwar although earlier than yours. My 3/8” drive box that I believe to be wartime due to the color and paper label still has the round O and Los Angeles stamping as does my 1/2” drive wartime box.

Looks like it says 24 PCS. as in 24 pieces to me. :dunno: Nice looking set and box.
UNAIU It looks like an O, but you are probably right. It does make more sense.
I, too, immediately saw 24 pcs. But that's a very large set. The basic set (5200 SR) had 10 pcs (7 socket, an ext, hinge handle and rat). The larger set (5200 AB) had 13 pcs, the same plus an extra ext., a speeder, and a universal joint. Even if you add the 7 swivel sockets in you're still at 20. Perhaps the 3 screwdriver bits and a sliding tee? I think I have 30 pcs in mine, but it's a WF- set, and there were more pieces.

You're going to have fun hitting twenty-four (24) to match that label! And no going over! :)
