That’s bold building a board for transitional wrenches. It would drive me nuts trying to find that many dual marks. You are a brave man.

I am worried it may kill my ocd but we will find out [emoji23] with way I wanted to build a spot for them so as the collection grows in the future that I will have room

Ok guys, I am starting to lay out my transitional combo wrench board... the pictured wrenches are mostly Proto la because they are the same length since they are longer than the earlier pebble wrenches or smooth panels. I need quite a ton of transitional wrenches. I have a 13/16(1226) and a 1(1232) wrench. I need every other wrench which is 19 others [emoji15] do you guys have any extras? I would be interested in buying or trading. Let me know!

I'll look through mine. I was going to collect transitional when I first got my green Proto box, thinking it might have been a transitional box, but it's from 1958, so gets Proto LA instead. I don't remember what I have, I know I have several DBE.

I like to set my bar high and then I get disappointed when I fall short[emoji23] have you ever seen these large size transitional combos?

I got the leprechaun trap on lock- I am Irish so I will just go lock myself in somewhere [emoji23]

Ha. I prefer to see goals as nothing more than future disappointments. I also like to remember that a high bar is easier to sneak under. :rocker:

Can you show a close-up or better define "transitional"? Are you talking about any and all late 1940's combination wrenches, or only dual-marled Plomb/Proto? I see Pebbles in there. I will check. But please clarify.

I am talking dual marked smooth combo wrenches. I was using some large diameter pebbles for place holders but they are not exact as the pebbles are not as long as the later dual marks. These are the 2 wrenches that I own that are destined for this board! This new board will be strictly for dual mark/ transitional combo wrenches. The pebbles already have their own spot

Smokesnake, I just checked, and I have 1", 1-1/16", 1-1/8", 5/8" and 1/2"L and 3/4"L

I also have a few DOE's and DBE's if you are interested.

Sorry Smoke, all I can find are these crummy DOE's.... can't really use them cause the mirror finish reflection makes it hard to see what you're working on.

Your second picture doesn’t even begin to cover it but those wrenches are amazing none the less [emoji23][emoji23]! Your collection continues to amaze me, even though I know I shouldn’t be surprised at the caliber of your collection

I already have a 1” but would like the 1-1/16, 1-1/8 and the 5/8. I should probably hold off on the others because then I would have to build boards for them[emoji15][emoji23]

Wait till you find out the lettering is stamped on different sides of different wrenches. At least I know that’s an issue with proto la wrenches.

Here is what I’ve got:

-1208-L 1/4”
-1218 9/16”

Neither one is a duplicate, but for the right trade I might be persuaded...

I did get a care package today from Roy today! I got them all cleaned up. The pipe wrench was pretty rusty at some point and some and didn’t have any original paint left over so I finished cleaning it up. Normally I like to try to leave the paint on the handle but there was none left. I am still happy with it. Now I have a 6” and 8” danielson style adjustable! And all 3 versions of the 8”!

And the third (and last) piece of the PL∇MB/PR∇T∇ transition tools that I have is this 10” (made at the J.P. Danielson plant, I believe). Has owners initials “FH” on the fixed part of the head on both sides, though. Some chrome loss of tip of movable jaw.

I've got dbe, and a Plomb or two snuck in with my Proto LA.

The Proto LA set is my first set of Proto. I bought it in about 1989 in Spokane, at a "moving into a home" sale from an elderly man on oxygen. $10. I never noticed until I was putting it into my Proto LA stuff that the 3/8 - 7/16 was Plomb. It matches the set, but not a set. The rest of them came to me later.

I used to have a bunch of dual marked, I sold them before I left South Dakota, think they went to Twertsy. Before I was on GJ, sold them to him on Ebay if I recall correctly.

Until this page of this thread I was under the impression that Proto LA was the first rendition of those "L" tools. Did Plomb have them or did PR∇T∇ PLOMB start them?

Good question but not easy to answer. Legally it was plomb making them while branding their work Proto Plomb in an attempt or get around a recent lawsuit. The company was still marking their publications as the plomb tool company

I only doubt the existence of Plomb-marked-only "L" tools because they should exist in Pebble form, and THAT would be a rare sight to behold--a complete Pebble L set, lol
