It does appear to be wishful thinking on the part of the seller, but you never know.... somebody might be PLOMB crazy about it! :willy_nil

oooh! I wonder what mine would go for without the new paint job and drawer liners?

Man that Firestone stuff sure is cool! I can’t say I have ever found any before. Do we have a time frame of when they produced it?

I was out for a run on my lunch break and saw a sign for an estate sale :rocker: I sprinted home and drove over there and pulled about 20lbs of tools out of a roller stack... I did get a ton of proto empire stuff but these were actual thread correct tools! This was the 2nd weekend of the sale so I was able to get everything for $40:D...Yes the alligator bar/leaf spreader still has the price tag on it and no I didnt pay that :rocker: I will post the entire haul in the garage sale thread.

This got me curious about the 5449 progression. They are all pretty much the same animal, with the later plomb version having the same thicker handle as the proto.

I got a box for my partial set of screw extractors today. It always amazes me that these wood boxes have survived for so long.

Honestly I a very happy you posted this: now I know they're out there.

I wanted one and settled on a Blackhawk for my primary toolbox.

Just came in a box of stuff! Seems like I never find stuff like that when I am looking.

I found a sad Plvmb pebble ratchet (3/8th I think) but I think I can clean it up. How do t I get a new repair kit if I need one from proto? Or do any of you have one to sell?

Drives, they didnt make a long handle 3/8 in that style of ratchet. You have a 1/2 drive long handle there...a 1/2 drive proto rebuild kit should fit. Short handle ratchet #5449. You should try to clean this up . You would be surprised at what some elbow grease will do . But if your detent ball is damaged, you can still swap just the gear drive from a newer ratchet I believe?

So just scored this tool caddy from a farm auction. It was full of random sockets and ratchets including a few decent LA sockets and a breaker that cleaned up well. Significantly it had both 5497 1/2" & 5297 3/8" Plomb socket rails attached. The second pic is the one I already had which is slightly different as it has the Plomb embossing on the floor of the tray as well as the sides. whereas the latest one has it only on both sides. Last pic is better shot of rails detached. winning bid was $27.50 if anyone is trying to determine degree of suckage.

Very nice! Love farm auctions but mine usually don't have Plomb but vintage SK and Craftsman. Never know what you are going to find at an auction. Went to one last year that had a 6' tall Tesla coil.

Looking for a Round Beam Plomb 1068 Double Box End Wrench

I know exactly what you're talking about, I used to live in K.C. and would see crazy stuff at farm auctions, also hit an auction in rural Illinois and had never seen so much SK in one place. A massive amount of SK overkill. This was back when Bill was just starting AA and I remember going thru every piece to see if I could find any standard socket that had a tool no. AND the full "SK Chrome" marking. I left there with one of those Blackhawk 20's era 3/4" drive suitcase sets for $10.00. I think it was the only full set of any brand they had that wasn't SK.

So the 9/16 5/8 DBE is supposed to be an 1130. I didn't grab this for the bends, but because I knew the number is funky. Internet didn't give me any clues,

EDIT ok forget it Roy already solved it: https://garagejournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=8040276&postcount=6946

Thanks guys for letting me know that Proto's parts for my old Plvmb long handled ratchet are available.

Smoke: good to know that my ratchet is a 1/2 inch (it did look smaller, but I do have a bunch of washers that might have come off a battleship next to it).

BMW: thanks and only reason I asked is because one of the screws has been replaced at some time with one that is about 1/4 inch too long so it sticks out. once I clean it up i'll post up a few pics, but in the middle of a fence and new deck project now that our PNW rain has stopped for a few months.

Mr. X: I've never seen a tool holder like that with Plvmb's name on it and nice to know you now have 2. great find and one thing I know for certain is you CAN'T **** YOURSELF.

great score though.
