Thanks Rags! I thought you guys would like this.

Lugz, I should have dropped some clues the other day, lol.

Now if I could just get Tin Medic to send me that speeder he posted back in 2017! 😁 You know, the one that‘s just a junky old speeder without a ratchet built in, I mean, it’s like, pretty much useless, really, ya know!

For $15 that deserves a you ****! Nice work.
Thank you, Smokeshow69!
I have a small and slowly growing collection of PLOMB - this will be a dedicated box for it (except for my 3/4" set which I still need to derust, complete (missing several sockets, Ell bar and flex head bar), correct (2 different eras, several sockets will need to be replaced), etc...
For some reason I do not see much PLOMB in MA

3 BayGarage, this is just fantastic. How old is this piece would you guess? Never saw anything like this!

I’ve seen only one other, so long ago I don’t remember if it had this same handle or normal speeder handle. Either way I regretted not getting it when I had the chance. It’s been on my list a long time!

This part number appears to be 5488-S.

Wow, 3Bay and Rags posting different unicorns on the same day! Impressive.

Interesting discussion the other day on the Plomb Facebook group about the change in corners on the 9989. Seems they went from square to rounded in 1940. Based on Don's 1940 catalog page posted on the previous page, looks like either the artwork was slow to follow, or the corner change was after August, 1940. Know there's some membership crossover between here & there, but not sure how much.

Yup, there is a bit of crossover there but not as much as you would think. That’s why I post here and there. I tried to figure out who had the gray colored 9989 chest over there with the contract tag on it but can’t remember

Is that a tunnel between two different rabbit holes? Or one big rabbit hole with rabbits belonging to two different warrens?
...about the change in corners on the 9989.
I know we've talked about corners here, too, a while back, also colors, which I sequenced from '39 to '46, but I'd have to dig by searching. Such is the infuriating lot in life of collectors on forums. Despite our best efforts to organize and hook and crook them into something they're not, they just don't make good databases or knowledge management tools.

Unfortunately, this is not my box. It’s a 9990 with round corners, obviously originally red with the painted on logo.

I have that same box with those same pulls that was painted od green before it was spray bombed 🙄. However that box donated its slides to my original paint 9998. Slides ore exactly the same length even though the 9998 is a little bit deeper!

in terms of the 9989 discussion, here is my round corner with original paint! Missing it’s hasp but is otherwise pretty nice for its age. Wartime industry logo is decent.

Over the years, so many Plomb mysteries and questions have come to light in this thread. Lugz, you have been huge in the research and narrowing down facts, etc.... It would be awesome to have an ongoing, or " Live" Plomb Mysteries, Common questions, and Solved Question FAQ somewhere with all the stuff thats been figured out, or still remains a mystery all in one place. There seems to be a lot of folks with tons of information you dont see anywhere... Like the timeline of different styles of toolboxes.. and so much other stuff!! Just a thought!

I know we were talking about challenger sets a little while back. C1504 was super cool and sent me this in a trade package. From 1949 and still being distributed by the “plomb tool company “… look at this set! Early Proto la challenger set

Even Stickys can get lost in the shuffle - maybe a Google Spreadsheet similar to the "Vise Database" Dr Scott now owns? I could see tabs for different wrench styles, boxes, sockets, and drive tools not to mention all the other tools the Plomb empire made. I'd guess a Good Start could be made from some of the inventory sheets people have.

It would def have to be a group effort, but overseen by a few that are good with putting that kind of information together. I bet if a person went back through this entire thread, they could write down many topics of things long forgotten. Example: The 1/4" pebbled breaker only a few folks have one of!

From 1949 and still being distributed by the “plomb tool company “
The Plomb Tool Company did not change its name until 1957, and that change - to Pendleton Tool Industries, Inc., had nothing directly to do with the Plumb lawsuits. Plumb never demanded that Plomb change the name of its company. They demanded that they stop using the name of the company like a brand and trademark. When the Plomb Tool Company finally and fully conceded, they kept their name on catalogs and marketing and even packaging, all through the 50's, until 1957, but the "Plomb" had to be accompanied by "Tool Company," and it could not be on the tools.
It would be awesome to have an ongoing, or " Live" Plomb Mysteries, Common questions, and Solved Question FAQ somewhere with all the stuff thats been figured out, or still remains a mystery all in one place.
Well I think it would be cool to consolidate all the info we gather or figure out along the way to be assembled in one place for all to see and look back on any time with ease.
My thoughts...

- There might be too many things (mysteries, issues, questions, etc) for a single aid or reference
- I have tackled and posted deep research on three of them (Pebble finish tools, Lawsuit tools, dates of catalogs) already.
- Other light research topics (e.g., electro-plating burn marks) also have their own thread.
- If every brand had one of these FAQ/aids (e.g., my deep dive on wartime Snap-on warranty myths), and each one was a sticky, half the forum view would be stickies. (That's my 'practical, democratic, and diverse interests' perspective talking...)
- I'm tired and I still have a long "To Do" list. :)

(I actually agree with Outlaw that the way to handle things like this is aids/references/charts etc that are created and maintained offline and posted in an existing thread. Such as this one. And then tagged or bookmarked with a name that's unique, intuitive, and descriptive for easy searching later. 'Chest Timeline', for example. Or something like that. I am a big spreadsheet fan for compiling data (all good engineers understand the value of XY matrices!), but a graphical timeline would be good for a final product.

Whoever takes this on should recall that there are more factors to figure than just color and shape of corners. I believe the pulls changed from sculpted to D-rings or something, for example.)

- Lastly, I don't have ANY 9000 series chest of any size! (It's actually a sore subject with me. Missed one by about five minutes and I was still offering the guy twice what he paid as I helped him load it on his truck!) While I have taken on some subjects purely from an academic interest, someone with more of a tangible stake should probably take this one on! :)

Are you advocating a plomb sticky? I agree 100%!
You Plomb Mafia guys crack me up. There are seven (7) Plomb related threads in the sticky!

That is the one I referenced in the Herbrand thread some time back. Lugz asked for pictures, so thanks for validating me when I couldn’t myself!

My PWA-1394. Does anyone have info about this ratchet, or know where to get parts for it?

Recently took delivery of this unusual piece. It is a 2317 piston ring compressor. Catalog 19R shows some details about it and mentions that extra bands were available for various applications. When I searched this thread I didn't find any other records of one. I'm happy to add it to my collection.
