I was cruising CL last week and spotted it Tuesday. So I call the guy on Saturday thinking it is long gone, I was the first to even call. The guy was really cool, lots of cool tools in his garage. We bs for awhile and he says he was about to pull the ad and keep right before I called, I got lucky! Paid $150 for it, I think I got a good deal, but never having seen one for sale before I don't know. I do Know that I am super stoked to have it.:rocker: Some jackass did a repaint on it without prepping it first, you can still see the original paint in places. No rust, the casters are gone, but there is a little rolling cart it sits on. And it has the key!:)

Boy, I sure would like to find the optional piston rack. That would make it uber cool!

No problem :) that is a really cool score, thopugh. Are you going to restore it or use as-is?

Well I have not decided yet, I have another vintage box that would be first in line for a restoration. My wife thinks I should keep them both as is. I would like to just get the spray paint off, and see what it looks likes. Don't know if that is possible though.

I have a snap-on box that was rattle-canned flat black. I took laquer thinner and a rag and buffed the black off and it turned out great.

And yes, very cool box,I hope to run across a Plomb box some day.

I'll have to give the lacquer thinner a whirl, it would be nice to see the true patina. The inside of the drawers seem untouched, for the most part. I think I will fill this baby up with my Plomb and Proto collection, as well as other tools I have from the era.

Then you are aware of the lack of toolbox deals on CL in this state. I was very fortunate to find this. Where are you located?

I am over near Great Falls, but I was born in Polson. I get over there as often as I can.
As for lack of tool box deals, yes, we are lacking. I bought a "vintage" SO KR560 from my dealer for about an average price. Not a bad deal, but there was a guy on this site, that got the same box, for the same price, in better condition, off CL... In HAMILTON!!!
Oh Well.

"is the key like some cool, awesome looking plomb key or just a plain key? "

"Just a plain key, very worn and old. "

Get it a Plomb key chain screwdriver to live on its ring, THEN all will be awesome!

And...I have to ask...what the HELL kind of other vintage box could go AHEAD of a Plomb box in the restoration line???

Great score...I agree with the poster above that if you attack that spray can stuff properly it will come off and leave the original.

I will have to keep my eye out for a old Plomb key screwdriver, very good idea! As for the box first in line, it is a old SK 2 drawer, kinda like a machinist box, but it is a mechanics box. I have no idea what vintage it is, but it is very cool and VERY rough. The toolmobile only has a couple of small dings, so if I could just get that spray job off, I will most likely fill it up and use it.

I used acetone to remove the spraybomb coat from my little Snappy box - worked great; don't know if that is better or worse than lacquer thinner. :headscrat I guess it depends on the type of original paint. Fantastic find, btw. :rocker:

The original paint seems to be "Lustrous Chinese red enamel finish". Not so sure they make that anymore.:eyecrazy:

If you restore the box, I'll pay for the lab coat if you replicate this picture. LOL.
