PLVMB Experts, A mystery for Flex head breakers?

I have two 1/2" drive Flex head PLVMB flex head 18" Breaker Bars. One with a rectangular handle, and the other with a round handle. The round handle also has a lower hook hole, to allow for a square hole to be broached to slow the bar to be used as an extension.

The Weird part is BOTH have the same part number! 5468...

Any clue as to why this is? I didn't find anything enlightening at AA.

Quite simply different vintages. Manufacturers do change designs over time. Nowdays they would add an A, B, C, etc to the end of the part number to denote changes, but back then they didn't care.

The round handled bar is the same used by Craftsman in the early '40's, although the one I have doesn't have the square drive in it or the large hole, it has a smaller hole. I do have a 3/8 breaker bar that has the square drive in the handle.

Hmmm, not that much "Vintage" available there, both are "Made in USA" which places them 1939-42. Neither have a date code on them.

Clearly the pebble version is worthless, lucky for you, i will gladly accept it as a gift so as to not muck up your collection. It makes me sad to break your heart with this truth, but someone has to be honest with you.

Obviously i have no information regarding your original question, but my offer still stands.

Thank you for the kind offer but since that was my fathers, I think I'll keep it for sentimental reasons if nothing else...

Charles has it right. Plomb changed designs and often used old pictures in their catalogs. Part of the fun of collecting Plombs is the variations you'll find in "identical" tools.

I understand the sentimental nature of your dad's breaker, so I'll take the round handle off your hands. No one should ever need more than one breaker.:)
