I have a 30x40 shop that I would like to install a couple ceiling fans in. To help with airflow and to circulate the heat. The ceiling is finished drywall. there are two existing plug outlets, at about the perfect spots where I would hang the ceiling fan. How can I go about mounting the ceiling fans to the ceiling without cutting a hole in the drywall for an electrical box. I’d like to add a plug to each fan and simply plug them into the existing outlets.

Has anyone done something similar? Can I mount directly to the stud through the drywall?

Try a WireMold catalog, I have used their products for years but I don't know if boxes are rated to support a fan.

I have installed several fans in rooms with drywall ceilings by using fan support brackets that install through the hole I cut in the ceiling and the fan covers the hole.
