:needpics:since we don't have a clue as to what you really have there. I'd guess they are integral surge protectors and no green means it has failed, but I'd not bet on that one!

They sound like surge protection outlets. Green light on means the grounding is okay. Usually the red light being on means the surge protection has taken a hit and is no longer working. The outlet will still provide power but will not protect against power surges.

Just an update looking at plug in thing now,it looks as if these things just pluged in old two outlet recepticles by removing old coverplate and replacing with these things.then this was screwed into place by just using longer screw.Isuppose just to give 2 more plug in,s per recepticals.I unscrewed another one and plugged it in one that had red light on it and it also showed red .Pluged 1st one in other outlet and it shows green. All plug in,s work but i was courious as to why the red light. As i said before i,m no electricin but if ya,ll think its nesessary i,ll get bro. in law who is.Thanks

I'm guessing you're talking about something like this?

Green means power is applied, grounding is okay and hot/neutral are not reversed.

Red means surge protector is working. If the red light is out, the surge protector is not working.

At least that's the way it typically works.
