Oh ok. I see now. It's used like how you would put the clamp end on a spark plug wire to check the timing, but you just touch this up to the wire. Thanks.Looks like a neon bulb there to check for spark at the plug wire. Put the sensor up against the plug wire while holding the metal portion in your hand to provide a ground for the neon.
More compact, pen size versions*of this were common long ago when engines had spark plug leads.
I need a gapper this bulky like a hole in the head. Gimmick tool with little to no practical usefulness.
