I can't beleive this doesn't exist or I can't find it anyways. It sure would be handy to have a regular old plumb bob hanging from a hook on a string but without the need to change the string length when moving the marking point higher or lower because the dot would be on whatever is under the plumb bob. I know I could buy a $5 laser Keychain , tape the button and hang that from a hook but a real balanced plumb bob with a laser tip would sure be handy and probably more accurate than an off balance keychain. I just thought of it while writing this. I wonder if a laser bore sighter would work.

If you're going to pay for the accuracy of a calibrated/trued laser anyway, get rid of the string completely. I have a dewalt laser plumb bob that projects a laser up and down, so the point on the floor matches the point on the ceiling. They don't even make them anymore, as they have better ones now with more lasers/features.

I have a dewalt that puts a line vertical and horizontal but very expensive to have 4 of them mounted and used at same time when all I really need is a dot on the floor to see if I'm moving ceiling in the right direction or not.

It does or at least it did exist. I have one I got back in the late 90"s . I purchased it through the C.L. Lawrence company(they supply automotive and industrial, commercial glass places). It turned on from the pressure of the string when hung up
I'll look tomorrow and see if I can tell you who made it. I got it before all the lasers we have now, were that common or readily available.
I did buy a dewalt single dot laser bob and use that all the time. A lot quicker than an old bob(side note, I use bobs all the time for metal doorbucks and laying out off of a string line) but the laser bob has to be held up in the air and moved around to line up with a point on the ground and it is just a slow process.

There is also an old version that that shot the laser upwards and sat on a pendulum but that one was real finicky to use and I never trusted it.
