sorry...plumbers

I am wanting to remove my tub and replace it.
When I tried to remove the drain in the bottom of the tub with the special tool, the cross in the middle bent and broke from rust or age.

So any ideas how to remove it now???

THX,
Revin

There is a special tool for removing it when broken. Home Depot or a plumbing supply will have it

Vice grips on what's left? Otherwise a sort of giant easy-out.

I used a chisel & hammer in the past. Be careful not to damage the tub itself.

Is it a cast iron or plastic tub? Are you trying to save the tub? When all else fails on the CI tubs I use the BFH. Make sure you put a blanket over it as it kinda turns into shrapnel. Using this method you approach the drain from the other end and create access.

You need a tub drain remover. I bought one at Lowes. It was around $25. But it was worth it. It's kinda like a big easy-out. You pound on it with a hammer and use a 1/2" ratchet or breaker bar to turn it. I used an old Williams long handle ratchet when I did it.

I had a cast iron tub in our bathroom and couldn't get the drain out either. I cut a hole in the floor below and removed the trap. Not sure what you have below. If it's a finished room then I would go with that easy out thingy.

Got it !! It is a cast iron tub by the way.
Would you believe HD and Lowes did not have the removal tool.
I used the standard tool your suppose to use, and wrapped a piece of material that we used to open stuck jar lids, around it gave it a little tap in and had enough grip to turn and remove it.!
Thank You for all the GREAT suggestions!!
