Looking for a replacement kitchen faucet. Have a PricePfister Marielle set up that has turned to junk and is a constant leaker. Do not need to spend 400.00 to 500.00 or more as it does not warrant the waste to corrosion in 5 to 10 years of service life. Just run of the mill everyday folks stuff. I was actually going to go back to the old Delta 100, 300 or 400 series single handle lever as it is so easy to find parts for and after the o-ring or the spring and seals go bad, they are so ready available and cheap to repair. Get me in a better place to go or recommend another series from another brand. Will not buy another Price as it was made in China and I knew when I bought it that it would not go to long. I don't think I want to over pay for anything fancy, just the normal 79.00 150.00 stuff, Thanks ahead of time.

I stopped buying Price Pfister a long time ago.. They just don't seem to last.. and the inner parts are pot metal which corrode in short order. The Moen I had in my kitchen wasn't any better. I thought I would just slip in some new orings to stop a drip, and when I started to unscrew the handle, the faucet fell apart. The whole center section was corroded.

To replace the faucet, I bought a Hansgrohe that I found at Costco for a little over $200.00. This faucet is solid, heavy and is made from superior craftsmanship. So impressed with the faucet, I bought all Hangrohe fixtures for my current master bath remodel.

Stang, tell me what model you bought at Costco, was it separate pieces that fit in each hole or was it fitted to an escutcheon plate. I gotta please the wife with esthetics, I don't give a damn to much on the looks, I just want it to go 5 years or plus. Thanks

Its the Hangrohe Allegro E in Brushed nickel. It can be single hole mounted like in the picture, and also comes with the base plate if your sink has three holes. Sprayer extends out of the neck of the faucet.

I've installed that HansGrohe Allegra E. from Costco. For the price it is not a bad faucet by Hans, although I think it is a special made unit for Costco because it has a few quirks not seen on a lot of other Hans Grohe units. Most Hans grohe is absolutely perfect, this unit is not quite, but still nice.

In the $79 - 150 range go with a Moen pull out or chateau. Or a lower cost Kohler. The units at the plumbing supply are different and you usually do get a better value faucet from the plumbing supply. The box stores have their own models made special. Both are very easy to service, now days that is important because the units used seals that require service and cartridge replacement more frequently than in the old days..

Rule for faucets: The more you pay, the more likely they won't work.
You are probably right but I know that the builders grade faucet in my parents house has been working great for almost 50 years. Maybe the stuff builders used back then was better than now!

You all are going to hate me but here it goes. I got the $12 faucet at Walmart 4 years ago and it has worked perfectly with two little kids beating it up. It is a chrome plated plastic POS but it does the job without leaking. OTOH I have a 4 year old $150 Pfister in the kitchen that has leaked a drip a second for the last 2 years.

The old American standard in the kids bathroom corroded away to nothing. We wanted something cheap knowing kids are rough on stuff. I figured if it lasted 2 years I would just buy another for the price. When the kids are grown and moved out I will put something nice in there.

I work part time in a plumbing supply shop as I go to school. Your best bet is to go with anything delta. They have a lifetime warrenty against drips and workmanship. Walk into the store and return your cartridge or seals and get new ones no question asked. If we don't have replacement parts for certain trim pieces the customer service line is really easy to deal with and will ship them out directly to the customers house. Along the same line of delta is blanco as they make really nice faucets with the same warrenty and are made in canada.

I also have a Price Pfister in the bathroom. Single handle, and it won't stay in position at half flow. It's either a trickle, or full blast. It's seen 5 years of light use - guest bath. Single handle Moen in the primary bath is now 11 years old and no problems.

My two scents:

We have city water here, and with the chlorine and florene, and

urene they put in the water to keep us healthy enough to keep

paying taxes, I get to service many different plumbing fixtures.

Even though some of the parts have gotten cheesier in all of the

brands, I still prefer Moen, as they are a well made fixture, and

probably the easiest of all to repair when repairs are needed.

Definitely stay away from Big Box anything, and cHINESE everything

to say the least.

Are you saying that the exact same model number will be built differently depending on where it's sold?

I'm a plumbers son with a house with 4 baths. I am very diapointed in about everything in the big box stores. I saw a Grohe lav. valve on craigslist and bought for the master bath. First I have ever tried. Absolutely wonderful and nice looking. Same guy posted another 8 months later and I couldn't call him fast enough. 80 bucks each, and I wish he had 5 more. So impressed I bought a shower head and looked for a clawfoot tub valve of the same manufacture. Shower head is great and couldn't find the tub valve.

Delta parts are available anywhere. All faucets will eventually need parts.

Well, I used to think Delta was the cat's meow. Had nothing but in last 4 houses. We remodeled the kitchen 2 years ago and because of clearance at the new sink, we wound up with the new Delta Pilar with the touch on/off feature. Last week, it just quit. No warning. The selling dealer told me that if the touch feature ever failed, it could be bypassed. Not so. I've been waiting almost a week now for a new solenoid valve. No water in the kitchen and no parts anywhere. I complained and received an email that Delta no longer stocked parts and obtained them from the manufacturer. I'm guessing another China part. This sucker set me back over $500 at the time and only got in my pocket because it was the only one that would fit. Bad Delta. So be careful what you purchase.

And if you go to the supply house to get a part, most of the time the numbers of the parts are not the same as the box store.

The Hansghroe stuff from Costco is a great value. There are a couple differences to save cost versus their regular offerings, but it's nice for the money.

All faucets are plastic internals due to the no lead code. Plastics do not last against lime and calcium deposits at all they mar and gaul the plastic and then the orings bind and tear. For this reason the faucet will only last 5 to 10 years tops regardless of whose model it is. Regardless of cost. For this reason you should buy a faucet with a good parts replacement policy that has parts that are easy for you yourself to interchange. They will in most cases send you parts for free to replace the plastic stuff they are forced sell, however I still charge you.

When my Dad started plumbing in the early 70's he was partial to Moan however by the time he retired he liked anything you could get parts for. Kind of what Frank says above.

My houses are all Delta, with 2 exceptions, a couple of bathrooms have Hans Grohe faucets I bought at the local ReStore for $15 ea, they have performed well, I had used a ChiCom Delta bath faucet from HD & had issues with leaks whenever the aerater was removed & replaced, so had enough, the Grohe has been trouble free.

I've had good luck with American Standard, and any more that I buy will probably be American Standard.

Charles
I overspent on the previous renovation--put in Grohe faucets that cost a boatload. Then we had to sell the house at a huge loss, so...

This time I picked bathroom faucets that looked modern, that were affordable, and would be (relatively) trouble free.

American Standard Ceramix--they are often used in hotels etc--ceramic ball, no washers, solid brass casting and decent chrome. So far the first bathroom I renovated here is going on 12 years and other than cleaning the filter(s) and pop-ups I have not had to do anything to them. Matching shower set also has a solid brass handle and body, with the same ceramic ball...

They have also sent me the odd replacement part--I think something on the shower got flaky and they sent me a new piece no charge.

We had a local plumber come in and do a "grinder job" on the "middle" bathroom to replace the shower valve due to no rear access. They replaced everything with Wolverine Brass parts.

In the MBR everything is Grohe and other than cartridges and shower head replacements it's been fine. The only challenge with Grohe is that the replacement parts are hard to find for a 24+ year old shower valve.

In the kitchen we went BORG grade and just installed faucet #3 after 22 years - so on average 11 years for a Delta/Moen retail grade faucet.
