Hey,

I want to install a laundry tub in my detached garage build.

What size drain should I be using and what type material? The house is approximately 30' away

I will need to run a feed from the house as well, what size and material should I be using.

I'm going to dig a trench from the garage to the house, I'm thinking 5' would be a good depth what is your take on this. I'm in Ottawa, ON where it gets cold out.

Thanks in advance.

2" would be the drain size, but if I was going to the trouble of digging a 5' deep ditch I would make it a 3 or 4" so you could do a bathroom in the future.

Being a new build I assume permits will have to be pulled ? If so, best to check with your plumbing AHJ, about your plumbing needs and wants.... and do it right the first time. Good Luck JMO

I know a few guys that just do a dry well for grey water...

In my vermont cabin, we just dropped in 2 NDS dry well tanks and 50 feet of NDS EZ flow, $250 of crushed stone. Been there for 5 years never had an issue, we have a toilet and sink going into it, we treat it with enzyme every time we leave I only pumped it once in 5 years...

Just an idea, if its just for a floor drain and sink..

If you are burying a drain pipe, I would do a minimum of 3" unless code dictates larger. For water feed {cold only correct?}, for my fathers horse barn we buried 1/2" wirsbo pex going to a 5 ft hydrant from tractor supply...

Gravity does work in my favour.

Thanks for the answers. I think I feel confident to move forward.

When I called my building inspector to request plumbing permits/info on the job I wanted to do dhe just told me to contact a plumber and request info on the job, but I've been having a bit of a hard time getting a hold of someone in the area.

While, I'm getting the excavation for the garage, I'm going to have a trench dug from the garage to my house.
I'll then place the startings of a run for:

2" drain ABS

1.5 inch elec conduit to aid in sending the plumbing feed into the building

3/4 inch for my 60 amp elec service.

Thanks for all the advice.

When I googled frost depth in Ottawa I found this, "The City of Ottawa bldg dept. indicated that the frost depth is set at 5ft minimum for heated structures and 6ft for unheated construction."
