Plumbing Rough in - Question

I'm roughing in some of the plumbing before I pour my garage's floor slab...what is the best distance from the wall to position the discharge pipe for the toilet?

My biggest worry is putting it too close to the walls...

I believe it has to be 12", not positive though,check the one in the house.

If you measure to the bolts just remember they are on the sides of the flange, so split the difference.

My plumber goes 13 1/2" from the back wall. That is to the center of the flange.

I~m a Plumber 4 generations .... 12^is finish wall to center.... now a days toilets are coming thru 11^ due to HOME OWNER friendly. If you go too far you will have a big gap and toilet tank will flap in the breeze. 13 will be fine with 1;2 SR. 12.5 is the real # but if the wall get framed wrong which ALWAYS happens, because the carpenters screw it up on every job. The plumbers know the 12.5 but the carpenters do not.

I wound up about 14" away from the wall. Apart from it being a concrete wall (position won't change!), I'm the carpenter and the plumber, so everyone is talking nicely. At least for the moment.

I think I might have set the flange a bit too low though...debating whether I should dig it up and cut out all the fittings and redo that section or not. How much leeway is there when installing the toilet?

Depends on what you mean by a little low. You can probably stack two wax rings together for more wax ring thickness to avoid leaks. Use a newer type wax ring with the plastic flange for the lower wax ring, and then smush a wax ring without flange on top for a double thick wax ring. I would try this first before ripping out concrete and part of the plumbing.

Around a 1/2" low...the floor won't be poured until Thursday, although all the poly and mesh is in place now.

i think a double wax ring would work. I'll try to contact my neighbor the plumber and see what he thinks

It's all moot now...I hadn't realized that my friend who helped level the pitrun just shoveled sand over the pipes and hadn't done any compacting under or around them. When I checked the flange's height tonight, the whole pipe was shifting around...so I dug the sand out, raised the pipe to the level I had originally measured things at (what a difference THAT makes!) and compacted the sand under and around. All is good now, lots of clearance.
