Hi. Planning to build 30x40 and would like to get ideas on how to drain a utility sink and trench drain. I am planning to run drain on outside to tie in down spouts along with a French drain (same trench) to pull water away from building. The sink will be on north wall, trench drain in middle of building, then the downspout/french drains will be outside on South wall. Best way to run these and tie it all in. As for sink, let’s assume this will be not to code and only hot/cold water being used. Thanks

I wonder if "in the long term" would possible grease/soap build up from the sink reduce the absorption ability that in my thinking would be the primary concern for the down spouts, at least in the volume of waste water.
In short, would a 2nd shorter ditch be in order for the sink alone?👍
I have 2 similar conditions at my place and have carried these thoughts around, for years now and everything is still fine. As I get older I realize my rat hole tendencies. 😆

If the sink is only going to see light use and only water, I would consider draining it to air. You can see what’s going on with it and unless you run a lot a lot of water it probably won’t make a puddle. I’ve done it before and it worked pretty well. The grass around the drain pipe grew faster than the other grass. That was the only downside if that’s a downside.

Google "gray water system" - lots of ways to do this (where it's legal). I have 4" exit drains in my shop, so I just excavated along the east foundation (60') dug down 2 feet, backfilled with septic rock and the correct drainage pipe. Some people put it in a tank system that drains, some do a branch system to feed plants.

You need a vent valve on the sink to let air in..
