Does the Unified plumbing Code allow installing 1/4” hardware cloth inside vent stacks on a roof to keep pests out?

I don’t know, but after pulling a walnut out of my vent stack, in the basement, I put a 1/4” screen over the roof stack outlet, and attached it with a big hose clamp.

Not doing that repair again.

You can get pvc screens that will fit the piping perfectly. Many use them on side wall vents

After my neighbor saw a crow amusing himself by dropping (big) pecans in their husks down his vent stack, we both did stuff to ours. I actually put “coolie hats” on mine so even when the rubber part started to crack, the rain shouldn’t get in .

I wouldn't worry too much about it being a code violation ,as long as you remember to remember to remove it if you ever have any kind of cold/winter weather in your area.

Could be an issue with freezing up in cold climates. Otherwise I can’t think of any issues.
I have one that freezes without screen material. It is the main stack behind the laundry and must do just the right amount of moisture. Those copper pipe tee things helped but I still had to put heat tape around the top section. On that vent a screen would definitely not work.
I do put caps with screen material on my flue stacks. I've found plenty of birds and other treasures in those buggers. It's tempting to put screens on the vent stacks, but I'm already fighting the freeze. Winter is the worst time to play on a roof.

Who cares what the code says if you are living there. You ain't getting inspected. Do what you gotta do.

Worst thing that can happen is you have to move/sell and you remove the screen so the "home inspector" doesn't flag you.

Been thinking of doing this, seem to get some insects coming in , not the plumbing vent but the fart fans. In Tempe so no freeze issues.

Why would you worry if rain gets in?

this…takes about 20 minutes to install and 35 bucks. Keeps water out, has a screen to keep birds from dropping **** down them and cuts the snow so they don’t shear off.IMG_3990.jpeg
