I recently learned that Plvmb was sued over their name resulting in the creation of Proto. So my question is that on my socket it says both Plvmb and Proto. was this a transition time? It seems like the Gov. would make them instantly ditch the Plvmb name and move onto proto so i'm interested in why the socket would have both. Was proto one of their tool names and after they lost in court they adopted it as their company name? Just curious

Your socket is indeed a transition item from 1948 or 1949. The tools were marked only as Proto by 1950.

The new name was created when an employee (a lady) suggested Proto from "Professional Tools"...
